Unless they're going to port their games as well, this is going to be about as effective as any other attempt to turn phones into gaming devices.
This is clearly Microsoft's, and possibly Sony's in a near future, attempt to steal some sales from the Switch.

while the idea itself isn't bad at all, if the controllers can't extend beyond the device edge it's going to cover parts of the newer bezelless phones.
old xperia owners should rejoice, though, as the controller will barely cover the upper and lower bezels.

What about a phone with two slidable sections behind display.

Microsoft should just stick to PCs and Xboxes. They've never faired well in stuff relating to smartphones. In as much as this sounds like a good idea, Iam afraid it will remain just as such.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018Preparing for the next gen, with Xbox streaming to multiple... moreGame streaming is a bad idea.
Internet isn't the same all around the world. Streaming games requires much more bandwidth than 4K streaming. Latency must be ultra low, which requires fiber, which is only limited to densely populated areas in wealthy countries. You also don't get to play really anywhere since you need a data connection all the time, which requires LTE-Advanced or 5G with high speed. LTE in the world isn't enough. Even then good network coverage is also limited to certain areas. Finally you cannot own the game you paid for. At any moment you may lose your right to use what you paid for.
