Lexar unveils "largest A2 microSD card" at 512GB capacity

01 November 2018
Samsung's 512GB Evo+ card matches the sustained performance, but can't deliver the random read/write speed that apps need.

.alpha, 02 Nov 2018Or you can use the $300 to get 512GB iPhone with 1.6GB/sec.... moreThat is not transferable and gets wasted/thrown away with every new iPhone release? That doesn't even have warranty? (high capacity micro sd cards have 10 year warranties!). No thanks. Apple's way is the 'trillion dollar company' way. Apple likes to milk its users dry.

I just go with the UHS and U value. The U value is most important since it gives us a guaranteed minimum write speed xD. The C/V don't really give u a concrete enough value variance to be looked at imho.

Andy , 01 Nov 2018I agree the ratings for SD cards is needessly converlutedIt's simple, you just need to know there are four categories of ratings/standards.

                      1. Card type (capacity supported): SD, SDHC, SDXC, SDUC

                      2. BUS type (memory access speed): UHS-I, UHS-II, UHS-III, UHS-Express

                      3. Media speed class (sequential read/write): C2, C4, C6 or V6, C10 or U1 or V10, U3 or V30, V60, V90

                      4. Application speed class (random read/write or IOPS): A1, A2

They're transferable and cost so much less. The cost of iPhone XS Max is as follows: $1,099/64GB, $1,249/256GB, $1,449/512GB.

You will need to spend an additional $350 to go from 64GB to 512GB, to get 448GB of additional storage! Why waste $350 when you can buy a 400GB micro sdxc card for 1/3 the cost ($111)? Besides, you will never be able to transfer any unused internal storage should you upgrade or change phones. As you can see, it's all about greed, greed, greed and nothing else from Apple and other phone manufacturers who are not providing micro sd card slots in their phones.

Indian, 01 Nov 2018Memory card easily corrupted that's the reason peoples go f... moreActually NO. Original, genuine cards are very reliable, do not go corrupted even under heavy use, and they even have 10 year warranties. They can undergo a complete wash and spin dry cycle inside a washing machine and still have data intact.

Only fake micro sd cards get corrupted and the fake ones are usually manufactured in higher 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and even 512GB capacities at very low prices to entice naive buyers. Those fake cards are the reason large capacity cards are getting bad reputation as being easy to corrupt when they are actually as reliable (or even more reliable) than low capacity ones.

Here, read this to know what sort of extreme environmental conditions these micro sd cards are actually able to survive:

Some of these apps are meant to run in the background, while others will stay idle and not run in the background and will run if u enter the app only. Since I'm using my XPERIA XZ as my daily driver, I have more experience in using it as compared to my Z and X series smartphones. Installed quite a number of apps, Google ones (including Google Play), social apps like Instagram, SnapChat, Telegram etc, music apps include Spotify, SoundCloud, along with gaming related ones like Steam, Discord, Twitch and YouTube, with the last few being high intensive games. Guess what, all of these still made my smartphone have 800MB-900MB of free RAM, it may be flawed in multitasking because of the amount of RAM, but at least u have quite a lot of free RAM, so I don't see a reason why it can't run apps in the future. Well, unless that person have downloaded useless apps that "speed up your smartphone" like CleanMaster which will occupy quite a lot of RAM, 3GB or 4GB RAM is still enough for the future
