Lexar unveils "largest A2 microSD card" at 512GB capacity

01 November 2018
Samsung's 512GB Evo+ card matches the sustained performance, but can't deliver the random read/write speed that apps need.

You should know since there's a lot that comment here about 3 or 4 GB of RAM being not enough for "da futurr" while it is plenty of RAM now.

Memory card easily corrupted that's the reason peoples go for 16gb or 32gb memory at cheap price........ :)

These prices are understandable because the read/write speeds are unmatched by the competition.
However this is not good value yet. An internal memory upgrade is surprisingly cheaper; you could get the internal 512 GB upgrade from brands like Huawei and Samsung which is still faster than Micro SD for less money. Heck, even Apple charges just a little more for the 512GB Upgrade from the base 64 GB, and you know Apple is not cheap to begin with.

The Sandisk Ultra 400GB is the largest high capacity micro sd card storage right now that has the best balance of price and performance. Sure, this $300 Lexar card has better performance, but it's also a lot more expensive than the Sandisk. The Sandisk is sufficient for media storage and 4K video recording but if you store and run apps on micro sd storage, then you might consider this more expensive Lexar card instead. Otherwise, buy the 400GB Sandisk. It's currently selling for around $100 now. It's existence is good enough reason to NEVER buy a smartphone without any micro sd storage expansion. Not only are you wasting so much on storage you can't transfer to another phone should you upgrade, but you're also paying so much more for an equivalent amount of storage space you can get from micro sd expansion for far cheaper price. And worse, you're locked up with that fixed amount of storage in a phone without micro sd card slot, while micro sd cards keep on getting faster and cheaper while offering ever increasing storage capacities.

It's not that hard to decipher.
Class X (The partial circle with a number on it): Minimal speed the card can sustain for long periods, measured in MB. Here, the card can, at all times, run at 10MB/s.
Vx: Video class. The speed the card can sustain while recording video. Measured in MB too. Here, the card can, while recording video (and by extension all the time), run at 30MB/s.
UHS-I: The small I. It's the bus version. UHS-II has a second row of connectors but allows for much higher speeds. UHS-I is limited to approx. 100MB/s. UHS-II can do about 300MB/s.
U3: UHS class 3. Means the card can, at all times, run at 30MB/s.

There is redundancy but this is apparently for legacy reasons.
