Danny, 03 Nov 2018Hold your words, I'm pretty sure they are smarter than you. It's physically impossible to make anything foldable with zero gap at the folding point. You can't fold any currently existing material known to man this way without permanently creating a cut-in crease/groove in the material and you expect them to fold a functioning screen this way. LOL. And even if they opt to have a crease on the screen due to fold, there is that issue called "durability". We all know folding phones always lost connection first at the folding point due to repeated folding (flip) motion. Again, no material known to man can handle such folding in a single piece at zero gap at folding point. I might not have an engineering title, but I know materials and their chemical and mechanical properties. Only way they can make it foldable is like they show it on the picture, with a gap and a fold that isn't sharp.

Only way this could become actually usable is if it's foldable at both axis at the same time. And assuming they can make internals and the battery flexible, it could solve the "Bendgate" situations when carrying them in backpocket as it would shape itself to the shape of your butt. Other than that, I don't see any other value in it frankly. Or the possibility of doing it any other way. Engineers can be smart, but they can't change laws of physics.

This is really not useful and possibly another way to take money from customers for the same phone as before, but foldale. It looks like S8 plus but folded in the middle.

They looked unimpressive, I hope samsung can deliver, but they wouldn't release a ugly half finished product. Especially one they've been working on for years.

Seems quite likely that the first models with have some sort of issues with the screen. It's got to be really strong and reliable to withstand being folded and unfolded over and over again.

OwnFix3, 03 Nov 2018Wow, man. I'm so sure the engineers have not think about th... moreLol. Just because "engineers" have checked it, that doesn't make it brilliant. You'd be surprised how much junk "engineers" release every year. There is no way they can fold a functioning screen 180°. Meaning this thing is pointless and stupid.

Just like all the solutions to get rid of the stupid notch like retractable cameras that are motorized and then Xiaomi drops a Mi Mix 3 with whole case sliding action which is elegant and just works. So, clearly things can be engineered well. This thing isn't one of them because it serves no purpose other than saying we can fold the phone. So can Xiaomi Mi5. Just watch JerryRigEverything durability test of Mi5. It folded already like 2 years ago...
