Buy a Xiaomi... moreUsed it last year, and get rid of it, the update is bad, MIUI side of things is ok(well it's their business model) , but patches and core android is often forgotten,
Especially the monthly patches, is bad and they usually skip months worth of patches, funny thing is, when they skip, the released patches is no even the latest one, it usually 1 month behind and after that, silence
The most often update notification i get is to update MIUI app via sytem app updater in the setting

Xiaomi probably is the only android smartphone manufacturer that has been offering solid core updates and security updates since its early time. Well yeah it is not as early or timely compared to Google, but mind you, Xiaomi has a LOT of devices to take care of. And compared to Huawei, Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo, i would say Xiaomi is doing a pretty good job already.
No company is perfect. At least Xiaomi is keeping up the updates and improvements while LISTENING to their customer base. In fact i would rather hope they can make their own OS in future (just a wishful thinking though)
For those who mock and laugh Xiaomi, there is so much you do not know. I had one redmi note 2 and redmi note 3, both are stil functioning perfectly until now which is running MIUI 9.6 (RN3)
Please get one and use it. It will serve you well in terms of daily use OR even a secondary device.

For people who are saying "they just update the skin"
My Redmi Note 4, on MIUI Beta version, receives every month's security patch within 20 days. And even on the stable MIUI is rocking October security patch on Redmi Note 4. And never has the security patch been more than 2 months old. And this I am talking about an almost 2 year old budget device.
Xiaomi provides new features with their skin updates to really old phones as well, and also security updates within decent time. I would chose that any day over some stock Android ROM on a budget device where after 1.5 to 2 years you'll stop getting ANY update, and not even receive new features, which Xiaomi is probably giving to it's 3-4 year old mid rangers as well.

My Refmi 5 Plus (Global Version) already has MIUI 10 for a month (but with Android 8.1 though) :) Works great, apps' "smart" activity control improved and battery life increased)

they should not release the gesture update for old phones with separate buttons(like my old mi5s)...
overall... great job Xiaomi... no competition at this price :D

Even the updated phone is the popular one and that just for the sake of updating the skin because of, you know, advertising and services
