Comments from fandroids is too funny and the article itself is a non story.
Fandroid comments so far would only apply if the Apple pencil didn't charge magnetically and needed to buy an accessory to make it charge.
But in reality, the Apple pencil sticks to the ipad and charges up which is much more useful than having it sat on a qi charged mat.
Don't need accessories to make it charge. Looking forward to the next apple article by the Fandroid editor.
Also unrelated to this article which is a bigger and more relevant story than this one is that samsung still haven't fixed the spen issue with their note 9. Many Users still can't use it since its launch and still no fix for it. Don't believe then check the Samsung forums and or just Google it.

    :D

People will make a huge deal out of this again. We're talking about the Apple Pencil and not the iPad having a proprietary wireless charging system. And before people start thinking too much into the future, and how you all think Apple is cooking up some major change in the future by introducing its own wireless charging tech, see how well their tech works first.

Older pencil not compatible. Apple did this on purpose. They make sure nothing is compatible other than 'new' thing they made so consumers need to buy and spend their money. Evil company.

There's nothing to defend here, it's just basic logical and normal use of the pen.

Knowing Apple's insatiable greed, making everything proprietary so you won't be able to use and buy chargers and other accessories from competing manufacturers, it's really not a surprise.

Next year, Apple will come up with proprietary non-Qi compatible wireless chargers, while succeeding iphones and ipads will also no longer work with the Qi wireless charging standard including the Qi based wireless chargers Apple previously released. That way, Apple can milk more money from its hapless, naive customers wanting a piece of Apple's fake prestige. Apple will then claim the move is for the 'best of its customers' and hail their proprietary wireless charging solution as 'the most advanced in the world'. Apple will also claim they were 'courageous' to do so because they are 'genuinely' concerned with the 'safety' of their customers using third party accessories. How cunning! No wonder Apple is a trillion dollar company.

Like this thing charges by being on the side of the pad. Why would you need wireless charging on it.

Lol of Course! How very Foolish of us to think they Would?

For Apple everything is proprietary. They don't want their users/consumers to experience and feel other brands features. If they allow then some of their customers might switch to some other brands with more universal standard features.

This news is hardly a surprise one.

Typical Apple making things complicated for it's users & asking them to purchase additional accessories just to make additional profit. The worst part is that the Apple fans will defend this "courageous" move...

that s good, qc 3.0 is trash anyway :)
