I personally use an S9+ myself but a family member recently picked up a Pixel 2 XL and I have to say the lack of useless apps was refreshing and the UI just felt so smooth. Definitely something other phone manufactures should try and get with.

You can't fight with OnePlus anytime soon unless they increase their price and you don't. Oneplus is a flagship with very reasonable price. I don't think quality is an issue in OnePlus. It is very good phone.
Coming to midrange Pixel it will be a low end phone with midrange price. If it has very much same features like Nokia 7plus or 7.1plus and costs less than USD500 can consider it as a midrange pixel.

From a company that launches Flagship phones only are now releasing mid range phones. Were they threatened by the iPhone XR?? Doesn't matter anymore. I am waiting for these. woooooh

There were rumors months ago that Google was working on at least SEVEN devices.
I expect by next year, Google will also have a third Pixel line that caters to the budget conscious like Apple has done with the XR.
I would love a smaller Pixel. I don't need the camera capabilities. I'll just use the Google HDR+ app. I just want something compact and cheap that runs Pie smoothly.

Seriously, their flagships are mid ranged, with a good camera. It is about time they stepped up and sorted out the bluetooth/wifi connections in the 3. Same with shocking audio. They really need to sort out their qc, and make a proper flagship.

If the price is right, I think it may very well sell better than the Pixel 3 / XL
