Guess I'll be buying old flagships until this notch phase goes away. Worst thing to happen to the mobile industry

I bet a billion that most notch haters are single guys in their early 30ies with bad economy, self loathing and with nothing to be happy about.

BosOtter, 08 Nov 2018What about it, it's an average phone for today's standards.Mi Mix 3(~$475) is placed third on DxOMark for its camera, alongside Samsung's Note 9 ($1000) and just shy of 2points from Iphone XS Max ($1249). Mix 3 has a telephoto lens which few have in the market, 4-axis OIS, a front-facing depth sensor, Super AMOLED by Samsung (most major costly technology in most flagships) all at $475

Yeap an average phone at a bargain. Subtract the wireless charger from the equation and its ridiculously..

Give Xiaomi $1000 USD and they'll make a thousand dollar phone.

seems like people who dont like the notch are the ones who likely buy it....once people see the design and specs they ll ignore..but their notch sees like a nice waterdrop style and not like a titanic size..

But you cannot deny th... more"Sharp", with the quotation marks, read "Sharp brand under Foxconn", got wind of Apple's notch design and came up with a half-baked failure first. Not only was there a central u-shaped notch, the two top corners were also cut *diagonally*. That was one of the ugliest notch design ever, only second to the later Apple imitators (short flat notch but with big bottom bezel and slightly thicker top bezel).

Well, if I buy midrange I'd buy Meizu or Smartisan or something. If I buy Samsung I definitely go for flagship grade, though for not much more than the Chinese competition anyway as I always wait 3-4 months after launch and buy the incredibly priced Korean variant.

The different color shade of the notch and the display would still make the notch visible when there's a light source that's hitting them directly, making them still noticeable.
This would also just work well with OLEDs, and having the option to hide the notch isn't as great as not even having it in the first place. Android Pie is just introducing a fix on a problem that consumers didn't create but are the ones suffering from it.

"So instead of sticking to a company that has not - yet - implemented the notch, maybe you could stick to one that promises regular updates for it's devices. Just sayin'."

I get where you're coming from, but next to Google, Sony has one of the fastest update and support system on Android currently. In comparison to others, Samsung would release Android Pie on the Note 9 in January next year; the same month that Sony's Xperia XA2 series might get it.
Forget what features Samsung would add into the OS. Android Oreo has brought pretty much nothing new on Samsung devices.
