What's the point? We don't care which company makes what or who invests in it. The name Nokia means something and after using multiple phones launched by HMD, I trust they know what that is. There capabilities and therefore the products are nothing compared to the old Nokia and won't be till they get their own OS, but they have just started and already make phones with amazing built quality and good prices in some regions. I'll buy anything they make for at least 5 yrs.
They deserve a chance to take Nokia back to what it was. But it can't happen in one day.

We are talking about Network infrastructures here, not just some chip makers who will devise a 5G modem on its chip. Nevertheless, I did the research for you because I swear to God, a QWERTY phone will take some time.

                1G

In 1979, the merger of Nokia and Salora resulted in the establishment of "Mobira Oy". Mobira developed mobile phones for the Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) network, called the "1G" and was the first fully automatic cellular phone system. It became commercially available in 1981. In 1982, Mobira introduced its first car phone, the "Mobira Senator" for NMT – 450 networks.

In 1984, Nokia purchased Salora. Nokia's telecommunications division was renamed "Nokia-Mobira Oy". In the same year, the "Mobira Talkman", an early portable phone was launched. In 1987, Nokia introduced its first mobile phone, the "Mobira Cityman 900" for NMT– 900 networks. In comparison to the NMT – 450 network, there was a better signal strength but less coverage. While the Mobira Senator of 1982 had weighed 9.8 kg (22 lb) and the Talkman just under 5 kg (11 lb), the Mobira Cityman weighed only 800 g (28 oz) including its battery. The phone, which was considered expensive, became an item indicating a high status.

In 1987, the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was seen using a Mobira Cityman in Helsinki. The phone developed the nickname, the "Gorba". In 1989, Nokia-Mobira Oy was renamed "Nokia Mobile Phones".

                2G

Nokia contributed to the development of the GSM 2G. It was able to carry data (computing) as well as voice traffic. Nordic Mobile Telephony (NMT) was an early provider of international roaming. In 1987, GSM 2G became the new European standard for digital mobile technology.

In 1989, Nokia delivered its first GSM network to the Finnish operator Radiolinja. On 1 July 1991, in Helsinki, the first telephone call on the GSM G2 network was made by Harri Holkeri, the Prime Minister of Finland. He used a prototype Nokia GSM phone to make the call. In 1992, the first GSM phone, the Nokia 1011, was made commercially available. The model number, "1011" refers to its launch date on 10 November 1992. The GSM 2G network and mobile phones provided improved voice calls, international roaming and support for new services such as text messaging (Short Message Service (SMS).

                3G

Nokia and STMicroelectronics said they will share chipset technology and workers in order to push the evolution of high-speed 3G mobile technology. Through the agreement, STMicroelectronics will design and manufacture 3G chipsets based on Nokia's modem technologies, energy management, and radio-frequency technology.

Nokia plans to move part of its chip operations to STMicroelectronics. About 200 Nokia employees in Finland and the UK will move during the fourth quarter of 2007. Nokia has also awarded ST a design win of an advanced 3G HSPA (high-speed packet access) chipset supporting high data rates. The collaboration is a part of Nokia's larger strategy to license chipset technology to manufacturers who will develop and produce chipsets for Nokia. "Nokia's strategy will be to collaborate with its semiconductor partners for full chipset solutions," Niklas Savander, Executive Vice President of Technology Platforms for Nokia, said in a statement. "We have worked with STMicroelectronics for many years and the company is a perfect partner for this expanded collaboration."

You do the research for 4G and 5G. I'm not your P.A.

Please Nokia, this time as compact as 6.1

They are actually quite very good priced. As for the same old chinse bu''t. Nokia is an european Brand with a name that holds respect. Only to claim that this company is actyally giving their name to any crapp company that wants to do a phone, is an insult to them, to Finland and to Europe. So before talking like you always do, ignorance at it's best, learn who nokia actually is, what hmd does and who they are.

I do not remember when was the last phone from xiaomi that actually was not a copy, but if you say so... the only ones that braught something new, were vivo. That's about it. The rest of the chinese pack just do the normal copy paste. Even so, they have more money then HMD to invest in.whatever.' hmd are actually doing fine for a nokia.brand restart. Took a lot of risks, especially with the trolls nokia always had and the new commers, dying to put a dent in the name. But they are on the right path and the more they climb, the more innovation you will see. To compare them with tha allready rich companies like samesung and apple and newly xiaomi or oppo..... is a bit of ignorance in the proccess.

What tech? Pretty much almost all what mobile means, was invented and patented by Nokis. Hack first gsm network was by nokia, first gsm call was made with a nokia device. A device does not work with water, so it's funcrions needed a lot of researches that brought to Nokia a lot of patents. That are used by pretty much the most known smartphone/ mobile phone manufacturers. Samsung and apple included, and nope, we are not talking about 5 G.

Nokia did have the patent, but it's not only Nokia who develop mobile networking.

Even MediaTek is in the middle of developing their own 5G network.
FYI, as long as one has both parties has patent agreement, like Xiaomi - Nokia ones, both parties are free to use the tech for their own benefits.
