Huawei patents phone design with a hole in the display for the earpiece

No, not the selfie camera - though the company is considering that too. Pretty soon displays may look like Swiss cheese.

I understand Apple’s extended screen. It is a logical step in design.
I somehow try to understand notches (small cutouts in the screen) even though they don’t make much sense and look bad compared to extended screens.

But this stuff... this is an eye sore. The screen looks like having dead pixels in that area. What is the use of having some extra pixels between the earpiece cutout and the edge of the screen?

This is a c*ap concept. No logic behind it, no usefulness, and looks bad on top of everything.

                I prefer notch and holes much more then this bunch of cry babies in here... Cmon guys, put your self together and build yor own perfect phones instead of this or chose to be a part of the innovation...

                  What Huawei is patenting is not the whole for god's sake, but the technology to make a screen with a whole that works. Even if it was done before, this means Huawei is using a method others aren't using and therefore have the right to patent the method.

                  Its really nasty to see how people can simply enjoy to complain about everything.

                    You can eliminate this notch with black pixels creating even bigger bezel if you are not into hw screen censorship. But what's the point, why not use repro under screen, it's so simple that you can create one at home, even if with lower quality. Still better than that.

                              Hey, here's an idea. How about you put the speaker ABOVE the screen so that you don't have to do any crazy stuff such as put a hole through it. Crazy, huh?

                                    Guys I think this is already been done by Oneplus in 6T... So, it might not be a valid patent...
                                    It not exact copied idea, it might be the source of inspiration...

                                    Source of info: JerryRigEverything's video of 6T break down, which showed the display has a hole for under display fingerprint sensor.

                                    Also, I think we must have minimum bezels but not such obsession with bezel-less... S9+ in my opinion has the right balance, even though those bezels mean that accidental touch is a common problem.
