Apple's T2 chip won't allow third-party repairs to your MacBook

But it also enables tons of security and non-security features.

it's a well known fact nowadays that you never own Apple products even after paying premium price... you merely rent / lease them from Apple
their users just enjoy when Apple ask them to bend over

Both of the displays mentioned above are sharp and very legible.

          Walter C. Dornez, 14 Nov 2018Biology is my thing. Struggling in Physics thoughI am actually much better in Physics than Biology. However I didn't pass the entry exam for Physics in my school (Scored a 69% when the bar was 70% T^T) and since I know myself, and the SE class was already full. I went with Biology. ^^;

So Apple first blocks all the small Apple parts sellers in Amazon and now this?
Another question: If you buy a 2000USD Macbook Pro, is that device that you paid even yours? You don't even have any other choice in repairing it on your own. Also Geniuses will replace the motherboard (huge quotation BTW) just because they couldn't track that a cable pin is the problem. Lol.

Simple thing to protect the data is to use encryption, but this has nothing to do with security. it's mostly about forcing you to only use their service, witch they can charger what ever so they want to. no choice, no freedom. they simply want to monopolize service of their products. Hey don't get me wrong. i use apple product now. had lots of iPhone's last one is X. but that's pretty much it. Getting depended on one company is never good. they don't produce in your / customers interest/intentions. Also almost 99% when you leaving your product to apple for repair! they wipe your data. they don't even guarantee it. Competition is healthy for customer. it means better prices and services.

did you know they did not need apple to do so?
they used gray key to unlock that 5c so please before make any idiotic statement just search a little bit.
if you are that type of person who fix a logic board with screwdriver then you might be reach at the moment but it does not seem so!

Apple is already making a ton of money out of the dang hardware they sell to you, why the heck do they care about the money you pay to repair your product? If the intention behind this was to ensure the best performance of the device I would understand, but it also means that anyone that lives far from a repair center is simply screwed because even if they ship their product to apple chances are it will suffer more harm In the traveling process while it doesn't even guarantee that your device will be repaired.

With these, I don't see a reason for owning a Mac out of USA

                                1) I bet you will be enjoying it so much repairing a logic board with your screwdriver. It's not a toaster. It's an ultraportable laptop.

                                2) Have you not heard that apple refused to unlock an iPhone 5C and an iPhone X to FBI?
A 5C does not even have touchID and they couldn't do it. Now even if FBI have an image or data on their systems of my fingerprint tell me how they are going to use it to unlock my a phone or a laptop with TouchID? Do they know apples algorithm? Also it's not about personal details people are worried about. I have nothing to hide but if a thief steals my laptop with touchID and mess with it they can use apple pay! Effectively stealing from my bank account.

Nothing you say makes sense so now please go fix your cheapo laptop for enjoyment.

so i guess you are not familiar with this sort of stuff or just hardly trying to defend apple on their stupid move.
also i do agree with average Joe/jewel need to go for official apple repair shop which is good for them but this is not good for some one like me who can actually repair almost any thing.
this sort of thing (if other manufactures start to go this way) make First:make life harder for us cause we should constantly keep track of which manufacture would do it or won't. 2nd: it would take one of my best hubby of repairing stuff that are been broken by me or my family.

Data and data security is infinitely more valuable than a few hundred or a few thousand $.

And for company use where very sensitive files are involved, they would prefer having the costs of thousand dollar repairs instead of potentially leaking certain files to unauthorised eyes. Those files can sometimes be worth the entire company value, or even more.

For personal use, would you prefer your banking details and other sensitive files and photos to get in the hands of someone claiming to "repair" your device for a small amount of money? Would you want to pay a few hundred $ for a repair or would you like to pay much less and have your data and info potentially snooped by the repair person?
