I just got the feeling that Huawei will break the tradition from introduce 1 flagship SOC in a year to 2 flagship SOC in a year. Maybe on the next P30 series we will see the 7nm Kirin 990 and the Mate 30 will come out with Kirin 1020 in 2019.

Its a bit obvious because they introduce 3 types of newer flagship processor this year. (Kirin 980, 990 & 1020)

4K@150fps is really cool, except they don't try using it at all cost.
Exynos 8895 was already capable of recording 4K@120fps videos; why is the Note 9 with Exynos 9810 only capable of 4K@60fps at best??

So by the numbers, this has the Kirin 980 thoroughly beaten.
About 4200 single and 10500 multicore in Geekbench, over 500GFLOPS of GPU.
Also the efficiency should be a lot better since the Mate 20, as gsmarena has reported with their freezer tests, has overheating problems!

Until Huawei and Samsung build their own GPU they will never be able to compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon.

Will wait for proper tests but I have a feeling Snapdragon 8150 will be the better chip next year.

Mollayyo, 14 Nov 2018Kirin 980 is more impressive. Better 7nm, 4G CAT21, A76 ... more2 COSTUM cores... that's 'nuff said. Huawei never made any costum cores.

                Kirin 980 is more impressive.

                Better 7nm, 4G CAT21, A76 and 7nm

Abhi Dahiya, 14 Nov 2018Looks like it stands no chance against Upcoming Snapdragon ... moreFix. It's Mali G76MP10, The Kirin 980 has 10 cores of G76.
                  12 Is on the E9820.
However I am impressed that the 9820 will bypass the A11 in single core. (3700x1.2=4440 which is higher than the avarage 4200 on A11)
And yes. Heheh~ the Adreno 640 is a beast. I think it's about 95% of the preformance shown in the Apple G12MP4. which is pretty damn amazing.

Looks like it stands no chance against Upcoming Snapdragon 855/8150.
This year's S845 already has better GPU than Mali G76 MP12(also present in Kirin 980). Snapdragon 855 GPU will murder it.

Also it's based on inferior 8nm process while Snapdragon will arrive with more efficient 7nm of TSMC.

Srv3, 14 Nov 2018Yes we'll have to wait for the benchmarks. But last year's ... moreYou for sure don't know what you are talking about. This year's Exynos massively failed at performance. Just single core scores on Geekbench don't matter.
Check out Anandtech analysis. Snapdragon 845 outperformed Exynos 9810 in real world performance. Unnecessarily big cores of Exynos 9810 resulted in throttling the phone in less than 1 minute.
Also the huge boost was only available if only single core was running. As soon as other cores started running, Exynos 9810 would throttle all the cores to 2017 Exynos performance levels.

Kickasser, 14 Nov 2018Not much different than Kirin 980 in my opinion... Apart f... moreThose custom cores are just fancy a76

Srv3, 14 Nov 2018Yes we'll have to wait for the benchmarks. But last year's ... moreThe power usage at higher clocks is the key issue otherwise it would just be good for benchmarks. This 8nm looks much weaker than tsmc 7nm. Normally samsung uses a lot more gpu cores than huawei and build a bigger chip but this time only 2 more cores, I would bet 8nm density cannot compete with 7nm as such they couldn't absorb the increased cost of more gpu cores.

But last year's exynos was the closest to the A11 bionic. And the new exynos might be the closest to the A12 bionic. The Antutu benchmark surely needs improvement.

mp12, huawei must be kicking themselves for not using the 7nm density advantage to build a slightly bigger chip.

Not much different than Kirin 980 in my opinion...
Apart from 2 custom cores, they used less powered A75 instead of A76...
                                Let's just wait for benchmarks...
