14 November 2018
The company has filed many patents for the various design elements needed for this phone to work. This render is based on those.

Whackcar, 15 Nov 2018Yep, you can get phones like the Mate 20x and the Honor 8x ... moreyou need to realise that aspect ratio plays a big factor in the actual size of the device.
as an example. a 7.3" phone at ratio 4:3 like the unfolded Samsung F would have 24% more screen area compared to a 7.3" phone with the current fashionable 19:9 type ratio.

Most of the flagships out there revolves around the 6" mark (with the bigger variants being more on the 6.5" region) on the tall ratio which is pretty much has the same width as a 5.5" phone on the previous fashionable and current media aspect ratio of 16:9/ basically same overall phone size as an S7 shell.

point is a 10" phone at that ratio would still be humongous in size even folded (screen itself would be bigger than the shell of Note9 by more than 25%. now image adding in the shell). Unless of course they decide to make it 16:9 when open but then would end up with nearly a square when folded which aint the most mobile phone looking factor atm and would look weird to hold when picking up calls from the folded format.

so yeah.... dont be fooled by screen diagonal size alone.
Cheers

I don't like how it looks when it's folded. That space between the two parts has to go. It looks like a piece of paper not folded all the way.

Looks nice! I'd totally use it. I don't mind the outer screen's bezels, since the main screen that's inside is meant to be the awesome one.

Everybody complaining about the screen size in tablet mode should seriously think properly. This is obviously going to be a test unit when released. They will increase in size. Take little steps people. Not big steps and when it bombs then you have a huge loss at your fingertips.
As for the front screen and the complaining about the bezels... This is NEW TECH. You have no idea the reasons why it has such big bezels. Just wait until the official release to comment on that. You all complain too much seriously. As if you all are going to be buying the phone.

Apart from the fact that I agree with everyone that outer bezels are too wide and 'tablet' screen will be too small if it just 7", I also am confused about the camera on this phone. Ideally, it should not have a need for a separate rear and front camera. The front camera can double up as the rear camera when the phone is unfolded.
For a 'tablet' size of 7 inches or thereabout, I wonder how many people will truly find a use for it, especially if it costs anywhere near the prices floating on the internet

Everyone expecting too much from this phone. It’s the first iteration and not meant to be mainstream. It’s a concept that’s finally becoming a reality and it will take another year or 2 for them to release a reasonably priced folding phone. I believe S and note series will eventually become folding phones too down the road.

Wow. The bezeks in the outer screen are massive....

Samsung should consider increasing the size of the unfolded screen to at least 10 inch. It would make it far more appealing and sensible.

The bezels are too big when folded. They should include something to fill up that dead space, like an extra screen.

1ns0mniac, 15 Nov 2018Tablet screen is not big enough to be a tablet!Exactly mu thoughts. You can get 7" phone for fraction of that price and it still fits into you pocket. They should make 6" screen when its folded and once its unfolded 10"

with flavour of the month minimal bezels all the rage (though not my taste) and estimate price over US$1500/euro1200 it will hard to convince people to buy it as main phone, if they priortise the bezels thining on the phone aspect rather than the tablet, could be different story, but i assuming that's even more technically challenging, though i wonder what other manufacturers such as huawei and xiaomi implemining their own versions of this hybrid
