Contracts are getting longer because phones are costing more, people want a £1000 phone but don't want to pay £42 a month + data costs on top for two years. Maffs.

It is 2018. No one should be bound to a phone contract for more than two years. In fact, more people are opting for 1-year contracts or going contractless, and just paying a monthly instalment for their expensive phone.
