And no! A case wont cut it, whats the point of showing off your thin and brittle aluminum ipad with a case?

It doesn't take much to reinforce this tablet, there's no excuse for it so please stop your apologetic behavior on apples behalf.
The point of a thin tablet/phone is lost when one must use it in a thick case for protection so that it will hold up during normal use and minor accidents.

But you don't get an iPad or any other large and thin tablet to sit on it or try to bend it. You get it and use it like you would use your own ultrabook. (i.e. don't sit on it, don't step on it, use it with care)

This isn't the first time, and considering how few new products they make per year, they really should do better.
I don't make electronic devices for a living, or anything physical for that matter. But say I want to build a custom bed for my son and I want to carve out a whole in the bed frame, to make a "secret compartment" for toys or something (piggy bank isn't really a thing anymore), then obviously I have to strengthen the surrounding area due to the loss in structural integrity.
Apple had to learn this the hard way previously with iphone's bend gate, but apparantly they didn't understand that the same applies to a tablet.

In ... moreI am no apple fanboy (I am writing from an android mobile and own a surface as pc), but I have to say I find really amusing how forums are full of people knowing better how to build and/or advertise products than huge companies dedicated professionals.
The internet is full of misunderstood geniouses!

woot?, 19 Nov 2018Why you should do this with your iPad? becasue it doesn't ... moreBecause then at least you know if you buy the overpriced device claiming itself high quality, then it must be because it withstood most of these tests. But it failed and I know if I was stupid enough to buy one and spend that money and watch this video about its durability i'd feel cheated alongside huge buyers remorse....or maybe not since all apple fanboys don't give a fuck as long as they have an apple product...who knows?

becasue it doesn't survive a tank, so it's not good?

Samsung shows off 1st foldable phone..
Apple see this and have to rush to "invent"(copy) this 1st...
then release a tablet that folds easily..
Then realise it wont work after you unfold it, but then realise customer will still pay many hundreds for another one = more profit, and then claim it a feature to keep your device looking new and shiny
(clearly i am joking, but still that breaks way too easily)

SigmaR, 19 Nov 2018Sure, who doesn't need a youtube video to tell you that you... moreHe uses the cutter to show what materials are used.
In the bend test it failed way too easy and so this should be treated as a baby and not something that can take a little beating. If in your backback and you lean against a wall or a pole of sorts (public transport) you're already putting it at risk.
Same with his sofa example. A pillow can quickly cover most things on a sofa, and so sitting on something by accident can quickly happen, and in most cases it would be fine because devices are well built.
It's just another example of lazy engineers at apple. It really wouldn't cost them much space, nor money, to put in re-inforcements - especially near the pen's charging area. And it really should be obivous as well.
This tablet has shockingly weak build quality.

That's why I always tend to buy version 2.0 for anything Apple. They always tend to screw up and missed some critical things (mainly structural and material) for their very first product. Take a look at scratchy plastic and only 2G on iPhone 2007, chamfer chipping on iPhone 5, the so-called "bendgate" on iPhone 6, keyboard issues for the butterfly keyboard, etc.
Not all of their first gen products suffering some key issues, but when they do, it would be very annoying. Unless it's still $499 like some years ago, it's still be easier to swallow. Now the price has been steadily increasing, having structural flaw like this become more and more unacceptable for us consumers. And not every countries have the official AppleCare to mitigate this critical issue temporarily, only a handful countries do. And when they do, it will costs them a pretty additional penny.
