I didn't try the XZ2 Compact, but the XZ2 with the same camera could take some very nice indoor low light shots.
Let's admit that it's full of noise, but there's absolutely no loss of detail in any way. Splash the 17MP images on a large screen and one would easily appreciate the level of clarity of the image, which outpaces every flagship sensors I have tried.
If you mean exposure, then I might agree to an extent due to some lack of multi-frame image stacking, but I'd trade a slightly worse dynamic range for much better colors, details, and the fact that it's complete of action features that would make it nearly impossible to miss a shot or have a blurry mess result.

"Bottom-firing loudspeaker instead of one on the bezel below the screen," ewww Sony ewww!!!

The last Oracle, 28 Nov 2018They won't be able to fit in a 1" sensor into any phone wit... moreUmm...they can, actually.
Take this, when you add up the sensor sizes of the Mate 20 Pro together, it's quite a bit larger than a 1" single sensor (1/1.7 + 1/2.3 + 1/2.8), yet the fact that Huawei manages to pack a large 4000mAh battery inside means that by reducing it to somewhere around 3500mAh mark, they could fit in an even larger sensor.
I'd also say that f/1.8 will be the fastest for a lens to capture a sharp image still. Going faster than that and the image might end up being too soft like demonstrated by the f/1.5 version of daylight images of the Galaxy S and Note 9 devices.

As for videos, I wouldn't expect them to go beyond in an instant and be able to record 4K HDR @60fps or even 120fps, but I surely have high hopes for a constant 4K HDR @30fps footage with great image stabilization (about as good as the SteadyShot Intelligent Active in 1080p).

                  Sony always use tiny batteries

166 mm tall? That is a brick size device, seriously. If this is indeed true, I must skip that phone. It can not fit comfortably in my pocket.

                      Sony missed the innovation-train.

No.., just no. No more meaningless increase in screen dimensions, enough is enough. We carry these in our pockets and they should be small enough to do so.
Go back to 5,2 screens, the headphone jack and stop with these taller screen trends.

I'm a huge Sony fan but that's not a Sony phone. That's another generic phone for fashion victims, and I'm not one of them.
Practical phones are better. You know, phones that have a headphone jack and are not chocolate bars.

Maybe stick to 48MP 1.5"-1.2" at f1.7. If it could do full res at 60fps and 4k at 120fps that would be amazing. Along with a 12MP 1/2.55" at f1.7 with DRAM that does 4k 120fps (HDR) and full res at 120fps and 1080p at 960fps. They could add another identical 12MP 1/2.55" sensor for zoom.

It's great that some Sony smartphones have HLG now along with H.265. That really helps the image.

If comments on a tech website translated to sales and profits, Sony Mobiles would be bigger than Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi combined.

I wish it was the case, though. They make quality stuff on all fronts. All audio and video equipment I have ever owned are Sony. Used Sony Ericssons till I moved to smartphones in 2014.

Tried the XZ2 Compact for a week. First Sony smartphone. The camera was disappointing for the price.
