I don't know if Huawei is a victim or not. The security services should provide evidence of Huawei's wrong doing. Why have n't they been punished and fined in the same way as VW over fuel tests?

I find it funny how the people in here are actually believing is because the Huawei phone is selling better than the n iPhone. If you get your head of of your a$$ and actually think about the article and reasons than it make 100% sense.
Let's see how the Chinese government responds through trade talks to see if this actually is about enough issue on a global scale.

China is an authoritarian country with deep control over Chinese businesses. China ranks among the worst countries in terms of freedom, censorship, corruption and democracy.
So a country would be downright mad to allow them to build 5G networks. It is beyond me why some western countries still allow that.
Besides Huawei is by no means unique. There are easily comparable alternatives from Ericsson or Nokia Networks. So why bother? I will happily pay a couple of bucks more if the network provider is shielding me from any influence from the Chinese gov however slim that chance is.

AnonD-797904, 29 Nov 2018Huawei is the most enviable phone company that the U.S. is ... moreActually China government itself refused to sign an agreement with US and other countries that it won't use or divulge to other entities the information gathered by Huawei and other Chinese OEMs from their customers . US and other countries would still go despite the risk if ONLY China signs an agreement - that way if CN breaks it, they can be penalized or sanctioned. But now, if CN shares information of customers from US or other countries, CN cannot be held accountable due to their sovereignty and customer agreement. EU might be next to stop Huawei from being imported/used in EU countries unless CN agrees to security terms.

Currently, few laws protecting consumers from Huawei and other OEMs about data security is very limited.

In history, Japan's ninja tapping and collection information from their enemy. Today China's 5G would be the great ninja, just like the spokesman said it can access all the components.

Huawei is the most enviable phone company that the U.S. is so insecure of.
It has really nothing to do with security but it has much to do with envy.
New Zealand is obviously America's blind follower.

5G will control everything from your driverless car to your appliances at home in future. It might control govt utilities gas, power and water as well. You can't give that control to rogue nation.
