This is quite hypocritical act taking into consideration that NZ politics including MPs are quite happy to take money from rich Chinese businessmen connected to mainland China and possibly Chinese government. Also we are (New Zealanders) are quite happy to sell our land to Chinese investors, never asking where the money are came from.

Well this happens when US doing an advertising campaign against Huawei.
This way maybe apple will build own 5G network in maybe 10 years but we always can blame US for not cooperating with other mostly chinese brands.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2018If they were so anti-competitive they would have banned Sam... moreOn what grounds? Samsung is South Korean. South Korea is America's ally.
The first problem with Huawei is that the Chinese government is said to have unlimited influence over their private companies. You can technically (to a lesser extent) say that about any company - American, Japanese or European as well. The problem is that in the current political climate there seems to be a higher than normal risk that they can weaponize it.
Even if the risk is small, its existence becomes a problem. Nobody outside of China has access to the firmware of Huawei devices. Same can be said of Apple or Samsung, but somehow nobody is scared of America or South Korea.
