Anonymous, 29 Nov 2018Sorry but Nokia is not a Xiaomi that do pricing for there d... moreI agree with you but with what Nokia has going on with the 9 ...it actually had more features in the hardware, so they do need to slightly sacrifice on something to keep the price more competitive or even the same as their competition, regardless of how long their devices have been on the market. Most consumers, don't follow release dates or chipsets ...they go to a store, they see phones in front of them and make their choices there according to what they like. So if a Nokia 9 is priced the same as a Samsung/Sony/LG but packs built in screen finger print reader, 5 cameras + ZEISS, 20 megapixel selfie cam, wireless charging, true motion display (or whatever) it will look like the more interesting device.

1 word to sum it all up : MEH!
SD710, smallish battery, ghastly notch, no jack , all glass crap!

Naming 8.1 raises price concerns... It will be expensive for Evrope market. Not good as in China it costs 250 dollars. It will have to go for older Nokia 7 plus instead, there is not big difference between them (same cameras, same screen,...).

Anilkumar Yadav, 29 Nov 2018You are 100% rightDowngrade not really. 710 is as strong as 835. Just the graphic processor is a bit slower.

What the heck they're talking about? Nokia 8.1 is more of a sidegrade of the Nokia 8 (2017). Clearly this is more feature rich than the 8 and SD710 seems to be a great SoC that is on par with 835.

Don't care about the SoC, care about the features like PureDisplay HDR, Dual Sight, maybe OZO audio, etc. I want those rich features with exciting names. Don't you guys like HDR? This got HDR, holy grail of colorful displays! I'm considering sidegrading my Nokia 8 to this.

Nokia is in a same boat where is Samsung. LG and Sony that is old brand name and known brand name so they ask premium price for there devices too.

I have not yet seen a HMD/Nokia phone that has good specs for it's price. Even there last flagship had SD835 and with insane price that was over the price of others that sold there phones with SD845.

Extensive notch, big chin, SD710... don't like it one bit.

While I generally don't mind using older high end chipsets (running Snapdragon 820 in Xiaomi Mi5), but not at a bloody 800€ pricetag if that's what Nokia is planning on charging for Nokia 9. Nokia 8 was already expensive and it wasn't particularly exciting...

G.Agrianitis, 29 Nov 2018The 8 had the snapdragon 835 and the 8.1 will have the snap... moreWhen the original 8 was released, it was the only flagship, so it made sense to give it the 835 chipset. With the 9 coming out, the 8xx chipset will be used for that, since the 9 will now take the 8's place as the flagship. It makes sense and it allows for Nokia to price these two flagships more competitively, which honestly works out better for us.

AnonD-804996, 29 Nov 2018So, Snapdragon 845 has been out for how long? And Nokia sti... moreThe 845 is for Nokia 9 ...I'm sure part of the delay of Nokia 9, is due to the bringing costs down of the 845, which works in our benefit. By releasing it now after the chip has been available for sometime, Nokia will be able to price the 9 more competitively, especially considering the 5 cameras and in-screen finger-print reader.

SO instead of charging premium price of $1000 like others, they will hopefully be able to price it around $700-$800 range. We'd still be getting a top spec'ed flagship with all the bells and whistles and probably more ...but at a better price.

Ugghh the notch. On a Nokia 8 model they should try harder to remove a notch. Problem is nowadays phone manufacturers just source screens from supplies who supply other manufacturers so getting a bespoke screen is hard as it costs more than the generic stuff they pump out. Phones are sourced from parts bins nowadays.
