Well, all the 0.1% of android users will be sad about it. Moving on. When will Google shut down Google Play News.

Why? I personally don't use it, but I've heard a lot of Youtubers and even business people doing discussions and meetings through it, especially those using G Suite for business (I think Linus from LTT once mentioned it).

      Geric.770, 01 Dec 2018Uh, I don't even use this platform together with F*ckbook M... morelol same

Basically, there's no reason to use Google products anymore because eventually they'll all just shut down.

Will be replaced by a dozen more messaging apps.

Google staff too busy dealing with useless dramas like political correctness and gender equality.

Can they just make an Android iMessage already? Like come on man. I wanna be able to still play and text with my friends and use an Android phone

Switch to Signal, all is good.

Nooo, I only use Google Hangouts. I don't use my internal SMS messenger. Hangout is a bit complicated, but as an advanced user, I use Google Voice to piggyback off Google Hangout Dilar to make internet calls. I can make a call anywhere as long as I have internet. Besides my own personal phone, I can make a call on my tablet, laptop, a random school library computer, within the Gmail window on the left.

I do mostly texting on my computer many years ago before Apple implementing iMessage on the iOS interface.

All my sms conversations are archived in my Gmail, which is searchable on a desktop.

I can record voice conversations with a push of one button and received voice answer machine messages to my e-mail/view as text, way before it was popular.

Everyone's texts eventually get erased, changing phones, having an iPhone.

At last. After being a bloatware spam for so may years in android.

Hangouts has had an excellent data sharing system for years and is still the most stable way to talk by voice and video call, but it was not the most successful. However, Google didn't leave Hangouts, but the name and they improved the engine, creating Duo, Allo and other things like that... Not bad. 👍

who needs this app? WhatsApp, line and other best

Hangout is nice. Using since day one, it lets you dial any number -landph or mobile of any region!! Now wondering what happens to the balance in it!?

I had stayed on hangouts instead of other services that mandates a carrier number in exchange for an account. Hangouts was great when it released. Hangouts video call could handle up to 10 simultaneous users and was able to embed mp4 videos; the feature was broken for over a year and recently it's fixed again. Their desktop client was tied to the chrome browser. As other chat clients innovated with voice attachments and html url embedding, hangout stalled in development, even though there is always an update each month claiming "Bug fix and performance improvements." My group will probably start moving to discord as the alternative now.

It's so confusing. They keep inttoducing rubbish services rather than doing it right and sticking with it. I didn't even know hangouts was supposed to be a chat service (hint). I just was haranged (stalked/harrased) to get on there only to be shirt fronted by a confusing display by an app hitchhiking with other services choking my phone's memory, with no explanation as to what was up, and left. Changing names and platforms is not going fix the real problems there.

i know a zillion ppl who use hangouts actually...yup a zillion!
well, at least 50 in my contact list that is

i think its very popular with a certain category of ppl.. these ppl dont use whatsup or fb messsenger for example, and thinks that nobody uses them (which is also wrong lol)

now, im sure hangouts has very little room to grow because the average joe does not care about it at all, hence the killing

                                    still annoying though

Not a surprise. Hangouts has been pretty much a failure with only few people using it compared to services like Skype or Whatsapp.

One of the most useless things alongside the whole Google+ platform.
