Carol, 08 Dec 2018This is a bold claim, but also a dumb one. To do something ... moreThey have trust only cause they use old brand name. Old employees they have, but thats about it. If they would of made a new name then they at first need to gain the trust, but as of them right now they didnt cause they used old trusted good brand name.

I have purchased Nokia 8 this year, people purchase Flagship phones, so that they will at least use a phone for 3-4 years. why someone go for a lower end chipset than SD835. If i am using a phone with best specs then why should i go for Nokia 8.1 which has SD710. As per benchmark scoring SD835 is far better than SD710. and am asking why ???? Nokia is doing such mistakes. Launching a Flagship processor in Nokia 8 and in 8.1 it should have provided SD845 then people would have preferred it. one more thing, people are much smarter now they look for better specs along with software . Mr. Juho Sarvikas only want to make money don't want customer satisfaction. spending 30k indian rupees on phones in every year is not a good deal for an individual.

Well considering a lot of people are on 2 year contracts with the nokia 8, myself included. They risk alienating customers that would have been buying next years flagship as they will look to a company that keeps its promises.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2018They can't keep up, nokia 7 plus is still on oreoYep. Too Many models so the speed is slowing. I am sure that 7 will get that upgrade but 7 may not be their most popular phone so other models will get it before that. And Nokia 6 and 8 Are the most popular so most likely those will get it first and other models after that.
Even Sony that is other very good brand of doing updates has not released upgrade to my Sony XZ1 compact yet, so it seems that pie aka 9 requires some work untill it is ready.
And Samsung and some other companies that have not so stellar upgrade history has not even announced pie upgrade to most of it phones.
But I think companies that keeps very clean and small collection of different models will in long run be in better position to make upgrades in timely fachion.
Apple is the prime example. Only few new models in a year. Very long support and quite fast upgrades. In Android I would Expect to see fast upgrades from Oneplus (not so stellar so far, but not bad) and maybe Sony because They have only small amounth of different phones. Sony release two flagship in the year, so I am a Little bit worried. Nokia has been good but there Are so Many models that I am really worried and all other brands... well bad upgrades in the past and huge amounth of different phone... not seing bright future in there....

Boreas, 08 Dec 2018HMD fanboys will treat this as fake news. Though I believe ... moreIf you newer do upgrades that may forse people to buy new phone. But delaying upgrade does not... and Nokia has so far stellar upgrade history Also considering those cheap models...

Heh nobody with Nokia 5 or 6 will move to Nokia 8,1 because it is so much expensive and nobody owning Nokia 8 will not move to Nokia 8.1 because new 8 series is not flagship anymore. Owners of 8 will move to next flagship Nokia 9. So this rumor is pure bogus!
Why Nokia phones sells as well as They do... it is not the price. You can get cheaper phones...
It is because of goog build quality and good pace of upgrades. If the upgrade is delayed there most propably still Are bugs that has to be killed before publishing the upgrade. Even Google did have some problems with Android 9 upgrades, so I can see why other manufacturers have problems too.

Average consumers don't care about OS version on their phones. Price is king!
If they get to see regular security updates then they'll be happy.
In the geeks' sphere it's different matter. So I don't see why HMD wants to upset the geeks.
HMD isn't competing with itself but other OEMs.

That's the big deal? My Nokia 7 plus with Android one still did not receive Android 9.
Now THAT is a big deal, because Android one is one of their main selling points.

It's nothing new. Other manufacturers also do it but never admit it. LG for instance never upgraded the LG V20 from Nougat. It came with Nougat 2 years ago [2016] and is currently still is in Nougat. Sure it updated the US carrier variants of the V20 to Oreo (possibly to avoid lawsuits) and a few other variants (Korea, SEA and TWN) right in to the second year but that's about it. All the many other variants were never updated. If they were, they'd get it possibly in January 2019 after the holiday buying season.
