It's silly for OEMs to claim they are decreasing battery capacity because of a battery optimised SoC or software or screen. That's like a car company developing an ultra fuel efficient engine and instead of a 40 litre tank, puts in a 10 litre one. You will still need those fuel filling stops.
Is it too much to ask for capacity and efficiency? And as can be seen with Redmi 3 and 4, it's not that easy to put in a 4100 mah battery into a compact frame.

And about Redmi 7.. i think that will be plastic phone with Mediatek processor inside. If i want that, Redmi 6 is here for 109$ (3\32GB version). I hope that Xiaomi will give as on the market phone: without notch, or at least in a teardrop shape, at least SD636, no more than 5.5" 18:9 radio (or with notch 19:9), same battery like was in Redmi 4(x) 4000mah, and if NFC is not Xiaomi thing in this low end class, then metalunibody case will be good more (for example like in A2). I really like MIUI (9 or 10), also in 3-4 taps we can disable recomandetions in Xiaomi apps (no adds then).. but phones like Note 6 Pro even for 160$ is not that good, because it's no practical for one hand usage. Thats why i vrote for Mi 8 Se, yes giant notch is there, but at least jave good build, good procesor, good Amoled screen, and most important it's compact phone.

Redmi 3 was very good phone! Size 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and 4100mAh battery with endurance rating 107 hour! Sad that newer phones cannot compete with it, with mobility!
Why dont you make good phones now? Phone what fits into pocket and lasts hours continuous usage? Here is receipt:
- Keep body size same as Redmi 3 and with thin bezels you can increase display to 5,8 inch!
- Keep battery size same as Redmi 3 and with 14nm processor you can get endurance rating up to 150 hour!
That would be the phone I would buy.

Fits into pocket, can be used by one hand, and smaller screen saves also battery time. But if 2900mAh is true then I cant buy it, too weak battery, another phone what is not suitable when you are sitting some 8 hour on train and want to be in internet (probably lot of time with weak signal what consumes more battery) with screen on almost full trip... when traintrip is over you got empty battery and cannot call a taxi.

On redmi 4x now, thinking to get redmi 7 pro or redmi 7x....if the price is right. Let's wait for Launch in January. Hoping for 4gb ram and 128gb storage option.

The only things I don't like is the too boxy shape and the biggest notch among all Xiaomi devices. Maybe I'll wait for Redmi 7 and I'll decide when I can compare both.
But anyway Redmi 7 looks promising.
