It looks like they want nothing to do with open handset alliance. Maybe soon Android or whatever it will be called will be closed source

gOS? Imo they should stick with Android until their new Fuschia OS is completed than they can gradually transition from Android to that

Does this mean our messages are being sent (covertly) over the internet to. Google servers, violating whatever laws)? (Great not!).

You know they are designing a new OS, and Android has been challenging from the beginning? They expected people to go to chrome, but like MS-DOS before it, it stuck around. The potential new OS might be wonderful from a technical point of view, leading to better user experiences.

Why not gOS and that's all? It'll be a great rival to iOS

How can I have separate notification, for messages, volumes and ringtone, for incoming phonecalls, volumes in Android Pie? I do not want the same volume for message notifications and ringtone volumes!

Dude, they just need to make something that rivals or even overtakes iMessage in terms of convenience and fun over iMessage. Airdrop. When that happens, I'll switch from iOS in a heartbeat. But as it stands, I'm getting the XR tomorrow. Get your shit together Google!
