You talk so many things on something that you haven't even seen or tried in personal yet, and assume them based on pure imagination.
Many of the comments here sounds similar to what people also said when 18:9 was about to come to smartphones. Guess what, people eventually got over it and accepted it as a standard, since it also gives many advantages over the old 16:9 ratio, arguably it has more advantages than disadvantages.
In comparison, 21:9 is actually an industry standard ratio and there are hundreds to thousands of contents that are made in this particular ratio.
Now go on and list me some popular movies you know that were shot originally in 18:9 or 18.5:9 or 18.7:9 or 19:9 or 19.5:9 ratio.

And rumor has it that they will use it mainly so they can incorporate a PS alike on screen side contols for gaming whilst keeping 16:9 clear gaming screen area in the middle.
But that aspect ratio is ridiculousy wrong and unpractical for common everyday mobile usage.

Also that assuming you having damaged the device creating a void to allow water in..

Apple iPhone XS Max is 19.5:9 with next to no bezeldue to the notch and is 6.20 inches tall. Which imo is close to the max you can go.. before the device will bend in you’re pocket when you sit down. I had the note 8 which was 6.40 which is bigger in tallness than the note 9 btw and having that in my pocket was like I had a brick in my pocket. And at points a pain to get out of jeans and work trousers.. I can’t imagine how much of a pain this will be...

Bezel seems to be getting smaller.. I wasn’t sure that 18.5:9 was going to take off or the 19.5:9 on the iPhone with the notch. But it seems okay in most people’s hands.. though I’m sure some people would still prefer a 16:9 complete bezeless phone .. I can’t see 21:9 taking I mean it’s will be like carrying around a brick in your pocket.. the iPhone XS Max is 6.20 inches the average brick size in the uk is 8.20 inches.. now if you include the Sony xz4 has bezels and has a taller displayed... I mean how close to a brick size is it gonna be .. I mean yes it thinner.. doesn’t mean it won’t bend in your pocket every time you sit down though.. in jeans..
