Counterclockwise: computer makers fail at making phones time and again

06 January 2019
All except Apple, of course. But then Apple's best-selling product before the iPhone was the iPod - not the Mac.

This is not surprising. It’s a classic business challenges for companies in any sector. Why most PC companies fail in mobile? Because it’s not their competency. And I bet most of these companies set their mobile division just to follow trend, not actual part of the company vision, and when cost need to be cut, obviously the smaller mobile division will go.

Nothing new.

If the HP Elite x3 was a android phone, I wouldve brought it

As the article ends with, there are many reasons why many pc makers failed quickly with phones, one of them being that many of them seemed tied to ms winmo, when Ms decided to commit suicide in mobile and killed Nokia on purpose, for whatever weird reasons they had to do so, many pc makers just seemed to give up and many never even looked at going with android, symbian, was already dieing, partly due to it being so variable depending on which makers offering you were using, me, I realy liked sony/Ericssons version of symbian, it seemed logical to me, but Nokia and others always seemed messy and hard to use no matter how I tried.
HTC suprised itself with a lucky hit, the HTC HD 2 could dual boot winmo 6.5 and pre-release, pre-beta versions of android, which made it THE android developers phone for at least 3 years, as it was so much better than the "pure" android devices like the awful G1 etc, if more pc makers, like dell, had tried again with android devices,or had their offerings more amenable to bootloader unlocking, they may have done better, but they most just seemed to give up with the suicide death of Ms winmo, perhaps pc makers had even less faith in what Ms said than even the public did after winmo 6.5,just too many lies from Ms about winmo/phone 7/7.1/7.5/8 etc..

Why only Apple success is because late Steve Jobs is a great marketer and influencer (also visionary too). He can perfects what is already available before and makes marketing "Apple is the first bla bla bla" and it works. Apple now is just follow what he did and of course not all of their projects is success.

Dont forget why only Apple is success is because all other manufacture is using Android OS on their phone. They are attacked by the cheaper Chinese brand which will be compared from the consumer while Apple cant be compared to another brand because none of other brand using iOS.

So Apple is just like living in another world. For exampe playing hardcore gaming just using 2-3 GB RAM is still smooth and as we have already known that it's more fluid and optimiezed than Android (less fragmentation because less amount of product differentiation).

Man, I miss Siemens so much. They made some of the best phones back in the day. I wish they made similarly great Smartphones now.

Dell and HP made some excellent PDAs and Windows mobile devices. It's a shame they failed at the transition to smartphones, although some of Dell's early devices were actually super interesting and decent.

Y'all forgot about Microsoft- I'm still dad Windows Mobile isn't a thing anymore

sadh, 06 Jan 2019Most companies didnt even try out the second effort. Dell 5... moreAgreed. They had good ideas, but failed to build on them

Most companies didnt even try out the second effort. Dell 5" phone was humongous back then. But who knows that next year, Samsung brought out the Note with 5.3 and people liked it.

Sharp with its bezelles and notches are amongst the first too. But it's Xiaomi and again Samsung who popularize small bezel and iPhones known for the notch.

Or HP. The Palm wasnt a mistake at all. They just were too pessimistic. Look at iOS who coppied alot from webOS.
