Counterclockwise: computer makers fail at making phones time and again

06 January 2019
All except Apple, of course. But then Apple's best-selling product before the iPhone was the iPod - not the Mac.

This list is VERY flawed.

Is Asus a failure in smart phones? Google makes computers (Pixel book) and phones, though debatable I don't know if they're a true failure in either market. Lenovo is just an unknown in North America for phones. But hardly a failure in Asia. Nor would I really say the modern Motorola is a failure. It's still digging out from under the destruction Google caused. But they are making some good phones.

Speaking of buy outs and screw ups. The Pre was Palm's baby. HP just slapped their name on it. Sure Palm was a shell of their PDA days by then (does that count as a true computer?), but we wouldn't be where we are now without them.

Of course I couldn't agree more with Gigabyte and Dell's tragic foray into phones.

But you also missed a few other ones on your list. Both good and bad.

Microsoft definitely has had success with the Surface line of computers. The Lumia wasn't great, but NOTHING like the Kin line. Verizon had to BUY back the Kin 1 and 2 that they were giving away for free. Clearly we can call MS a failure in the phone world.

But would you call Samsung a failure in the phone world? Yet they do manufacture laptops too.

The objective Guy, 07 Jan 2019Regarding Apple, yes they're a computer company and you may... morefair comment as I simply browsed it, looking for a fair opinion.
their point with Apple is invalid as they did not stopped producing computer/PC's.
With ASUS, it is only one line and their reason is not acceptable as ASUS continues to sell phones and now has the best gaming phone yet.

Yo I've managed to install Kali Linux on my 6 year old rooted Sony phone! :))
It even runs GIMP like a charm!!! On a 6 year old phone!
I'm amazed how fluid and fast it's processing.
Now I'm definitely going to root my S8+.
Whoever said smartphones are only for calls, messages and games couldn't be more wrong!

I don't remember any new Philips Android devices being released after 2015 (They still make dumb phones though, which are rebranded no-name devices) while Panasonic mostly makes budget devices for India now. Great success?
