kishan, 05 Jan 2019Over the time period foldable region get scratch or pill of... moreThere are 2 versions folding inwards (just like a book) in the still image
is the more practicable
Folding out as displayed in the video exposes the display at the fold so that part is unprotected along that edge
You could say have a 3 sided bumper to just slide the phone into it, however that introduces a side bezel
The biggest loser if this technology takes off will be Microsoft as it has no third-party app store as ALL Windows Phone OS are dead

As long as the price will be 2000+ nobody will buy it or the number of customers will be so low it have no future to create thing like this.

Over the time period foldable region get scratch or pill off to display good picture quality. Here manufacturer must test at least 0.5 millions bends on single screen to qualify.

At an absolute minimum the hinge/chassis supporting the display's folding must accomplish the following;
Provides for a display fold radius of 5mm
Mitigates 'all compression and tension' when folding display from 0-360 degrees
Supports the 'entire' display surface at all times (monolithic feel folded or unfolded)
Touch sub-system accurate regardless of fold angle
Accommodate a single fold device (C-Type) and double fold devices (S-Type or G-Type)
(USPTO Application# 20170208699)
Anything less results in a very flimsy device as those we have seen to date. Its all about the solid feel, 'fit and finish' and durability to be a successful product. BTW, the 'wedge design' is a non-starter and laughable.

Oh yes, looking forward to folding mobiles /2in1. But they have to be big for me then, then it will be very usefull.
Sitting here with a Huawei mate 20 X with a flip cover, so an 2in1 with 12-14 inches when its folded out, would be perfect.
I also think we no longer have to fear broken screens like today.
Thinking in around 2 years or something, normal people can afford to buy FP and most errors have been managed.
And i believe many people will get this wonder... a phone and a tablet in the same body = 2in1.

Foldable will never be practically possible. This will never serve the masses. It'll only be remembered as what can be done. There's actually very little usefulness to it while the tech is very much difficult.

BOE has proven themselves to be excellent display makers. (The good batch of Mate 20 Pro uses BOE display, the rest half with the green issues are made by LG)
Huawei is also working on bendable phones, so they likely will be using BOE made displays, which is good.
