Anonymous, 07 Jan 2019nope nope nope nope .... 660 is like an overclocked 636, so... moreUmm, not exactly. The ISPs are different, modems are different, and so are the graphics.
But indeed, 7nm is the way to go. I guess it'll take some time for the node to become more efficient, and hence cheaper, such that even mid range chips can be manufactured on it. I'm patiently waiting until then, and I'm not spending 700-800$ on a phone.

If you know anything about chips, you'd know that they're basically using lower binned chipsets, CPUs that had been originally rejected because the silicon was not upto standard.
But you probably don't realise this, and have hence bought into their marketing. Agreed, Xiaomi could use a better chipset at that price point and I'd love to see it happening in fact, but at least Xiaomi is using standard quality chipsets and not pulling such marketing bs.

By the time Xiaomi comes with SD 660 at that price point (in India at least), Asus & Realme will come up with SD670/675/even 710 in that price point.
I am quite sure Xiaomi is not going to be the number 1 brand in India by the end of this year, or even earlier.

All the people in the comments section had failed to observe that this is the non "pro" version of the redmi note 7 while complaining about the 660 chipset. This is already the most aggressively priced phone in this segment. Assuming it would be the same price as the zenfone max m2

So Qualcomm made so many great upper mid range chipsets, only for smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi to use the old and dated ones?
Sorry but I don't care even if the price is extremely low. In their lineup, there should only be one model with lower tier SD6xx chipset, and another one with upper tier SD6xx chipset. Redmi Note 7 Pro must get the SD710 or they'll eventually lose to Asus and Oppo.
And for G*dsake! 2019 is the year of USB C! Any manufacturer that would include microUSB on any smartphone in 2019 is an as*h*le for avoiding to make them future proof. Sorry, but I'm not tolerating such behavior anymore. It was fine for the last 3 years, but not this time anymore.
Just think of it, if USB C is set to be the next standard, then how would it be in that way if they still keep releasing phones with the old port? I expected that in just about 2 to 3 years, everyone would've switched to the new standard and completely abandon the old one already.
I guess the essential features require a premium price for manufacturers. Not surprised anyway, since Apple completely forces their users to switch to wireless audio technology, but ironically includes a wired Lightning EarPods inside the phones.

Abunja, 07 Jan 2019That's a neat SOC upgrade as SD 625 is already aging. I hop... moreIt's not much upgrade, both are old 14nm chips. 3+ years old arhitekture/process you are buying an old phone pretty much. That means compared to new 670 or 710 or even mediatek p70 on 12nm, 660 is battery drainer and expensive. Newer fab process are faster, cheaper and more efficiently, also much better other features like a. I. And has 600 series adreno compared to old 500 series.

Don't get me wrong, SD660 is a great processor for mid ranger, but it almost 2 years old an still on 14nm process, why not stick on SD636 and make note 7 more affordable than the others?
And god damn Xiaomi its 2019 why still micro USB!!??
