I'm pretty sure mobile phones were out before Apple came in...And I'm pretty sure there was an array of phones with different features and specs and desings from different companies...Oh wait....THATS BECAUSE THERE WAS! Apple made apps more popular and yes brought in competition that slightly increased the pace of things...slightly as the key word. Smart phones were nothing new. Samsung announced the F700 almost a year before the Iphone showed it's face, though they only had a proto type that was almost finished around when the Iphone came out. The Prada was released before the both of them. All had the similar design. Weither it was Lg or Samsung who truly had it first IDK but it is obviously Apple was the last to have it and has been riding highest off of it. Apple has brought no innovation. Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung brought the most. Motorola and Nokia for all their past intelligence and innovations and Samsung for some of the best recent smartphone features around. HD in mobiles, built in projectors, amoleds, power gpus, and so forth. Motorola was some of the first real trend setters and Nokia has been leading in mobile cameras followed by Samsung. Motorola and Nokia go far back and brought a lot to us. More so Motorola as far as I know. Apple just used everyone's ideas and designs, AND PARTS to bring you "the all new iphone with brand new self invented technology"...pathetic.

Apple is trying to sue every company over bs crap. Meanwhile most companies they are suing have real patents they can use against them. Apple just was using their power and money and it has sadly been working, but not forever and they should soon be tasting the backlash...All just because other companies offer too much competition and variety.

Although Moto vs Apple has been for some time, I suspect the reason why Motorola is now very rigorously pursuing it is because Google bought Motorola and is using Motorola as a proxy to fight against Apple.

Because FRAND doesn't mean free. Apple still has to license it retroactively, on FRAND terms. However, Apply is so far unwilling to do so, instead only offering to license it on FRAND terms going forward. That is not a valid FRAND defense.

motorola are the godfathers of mobile phones, they have been designing communication equipment for the military and end user, since their inception - they were responsible for alot of the development in relation to transmisson, data and packet switching, what people call today, gsm, gprs, edge, etc, thats where you will find most their court cases on patents, being directed towards apple. Even though nokia has always been talked highly about, it's motorola who put in alot alot of the groundwork
today their mobile phone mobility arm has been bought by google, if i remember correctly

actually they did 2005, 2006, 12 months contract was the norm, 18 months contracts was also in the market, but that was on the back of cashback deals. Prices of handsets will go up, but ask anyone who knows anything about the internals of mobile phones [ not saying you don't], and they will tell you that at board level iphone 4 or 3gs, there is no major advancement in comparision to a nokia smartphone 5 years ago
Why do you say nothing in phones has changed over the last 5 years, where have you been? Everything has changed, not just lcds and microphones. when you make counter statements, please try and expand a little on your answers, have you ever looked inside an old windows based pda and a htc mobile phone 2009, or for that a nokia x3 and 6230i.

1.microphones have gone digital based, today with most manufactures having two inside to reduce noise
2. management of power within smartphones have not improved dramatically, only that two power ic's are used today to improve efficency in comparision to 5 years ago where one power ic, would of distributed power to pcb motherboard [ because the screen size, uses alot more current, as does some high speed data services]
3. hspda and hsupa, supporting greater upload and download speeds
4. accelerator, screen automatically rotating
what's not
1. Near field communciation, is nothing more that an automated bluetooh service
2. mini usbs have been out since the old palm pda's [2000]
3. software is software, a nokia 6630 symbian interface, use icons, that companies still use today
4. touch screen have been here since hp jornada's [2000]
5. navigating thru menus is just as fast today, as 5 years ago
6. ribbons were used in mobile phones 5 years ago as they are being used today

1. camera resolution is a neutral, why because there are alot old htc and nokia's that take better pictures than the current crop of 5 to 8 megapixels
2. syncing phones to pc's, thats microsoft activesync or the old palm desktop interface to sync contacts and
