Of course you can use LineageOS with microG or without google services altogether + F-Droid, but not many people can and will do this considering how most apps like WhatsApp or Shazam uses Google Play Services in some way. Also, most apps (and even website like GSMArena) rely on Google's services to provide ads to you.

Personal "first-hand" experience, not Google searches, Xiaomi completely refuses any responsibility -- it will be the store alone that gives you warranty. Samsung actually works like written in the terms, they give you choice of a closer repair center (which may be great when you do online shopping).

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2019The really good thing with Xiaomi is the hardware that come... moreIf you've read my previous comment, I did. I'm actually on Syberia OS now since it works with Smart Lock (face unlock) and somehow yields better battery life on my Mi5 than LineageOS.

However I do miss the camera on MIUI since it's a better package overall. Google Cam port works good but somehow MIUI Camera's HDR mode works better in low light (GCam's low light/night sight mode gives me pinkish colour all over my photo). Also, the manual mode is somehow capped at 4 seconds instead of 30 in MIUI camera which is a bummer.

Like you said, Xiaomi's hardware is cheap and is extremely great for modders who can escape all the bloatwares and privacy invasion stuff with custom ROMs or root, but most of the people don't do this (and personally I don't like to waste my time doing it either) which is why I'm advising against using Xiaomi products since Xiaomi is preying on consumers like this to gain data without consent (and no way to opt out).

Also, an unlocked bootloader means you can't really lock your phone down if it's stolen since anyone can boot into TWRP and wipe it clean, but if anyone has a way please do enlighten me on how to do so.
