How about WebOS ported to a Samsung Wave (S8500) since Android is not getting ported anymore.

kurotsuki, 12 Dec 2011That's .... depend on the hardware manufactures I'm afraid.... morewell it is not impossible to make API gateway. For example cygwin gives you UNIX environment directly in windows.

Not to mention that if i had those millions i would make a reward for the first programmer or team of programmers who successfully run Linux on iPad(2). Without breaking structural integrity of the device. :-) (and is not affiliated with any way with Apple ofc)

Anonymous, 11 Dec 2011Phones need to be more like desktops, the ability to swap OS's.That's .... depend on the hardware manufactures I'm afraid. Many mobile driver has their own APIs which not compatible one and another which make them not generic. Processor, GPU, wifi, bluetooth, camera, etc. Each of them have their vendor specific driver with no common instruction which gives OS developers headache to make drivers for each of them (in them of OS interchangeability like you said). I do wish someday the mobile world can achieve that though. It's interesting to swap in any OS you like.

nokia boy, 12 Dec 2011Time for nokia to learn something from HP .... instead of s... moreYeah, that and Symbian as well.
Its a shame Nokia killed the world's most popular OS (at least till android came along).
Would have been great if Symbian had been opened up instead of being sold to Accenture.

But in HP's case, I really blame the lack of foresight: they buy an OS for millions of dollars, make all of ONE tablet with it, kill it in a matter of weeks, and then they open source WebOS.

The engineers at Palm must be hopping mad to see their creation go out like this!

I've also just noticed that this was the only piece of news coming out for the weekend. Are weekends usually slow news days then, for all tech blogs? If that's the case, the weeks leading up to Christmas really are going to be a week or two of silence on here until CES 2012.

Hmm...this could be interesting, but with HP thier direction are that they will probably carry on the WEB-OS onto the tablet market in 2013....totally ruling out any role for the smartphone platform. Just hope HTC can adopt Web OS.

                            wonder what its source is?

on a serious note don't you find it odd that once you see your ship drowning you declare it open source and the pirates come sailing for the loot..if any..

no offence to any party here..

I really strongly wish that Sony (Ericsson) will pick it too. Although if they do they will take a long time to release a webOS device but I really really like this OS and if it comes with Sony (Ericsson) I am so not holding back.
