According to CounterPoint Research Xiaomi makes a profit of 2 USD per device sold. The company announced last April that it has indefinitely capped its net profit margin from hardware sales at 5%, which is still way more than it currently enjoys.

But i really dont think xiaomi will not make any profit here.
Just for example buying price from the provider for our shops on A2 lite by xiaomi is 147,25 euros and we sell it for 175 to our customers. Thats 30 euros profit.
I really thing xiaomi at least makes another 30 euros profit i mean the raw manufacturing price should be no more than 80 euros for this model.
So counting all other expenses i really think xiaomi makes at least 30 euros per phone sold on A2 lite.

Tiny profit margin requires them to play safe and hence the flash sale model. If they sell even slightly below their expectations, it'd be enough to wipe out their profits entirely. In this case, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Supply and demand, it's easy stuff.
Right now the Redmi Note 7 is in short supply and those who either obtained some, or have deals for it en pre-sell can therefor charge the premium the market allows them to.
Same applies to anything, take the Hyundai Kona EV (electric long range car), it's being resold at a premium price by those who got their hands on one to those who did not bother standing in the que of 20 000 people here. This price will drop once the item, in this case car, becomes more widely available.
It's difficult to say in advance how this phone will perform in the camera dept. Sure the Poco has the CPU/GPU for those who require that, and a good camera. Although it could be as good as Mix 3, but isn't. So it will be interesting to see the Redmi note 7's performance.
Cry all you like, the Redmi Note 7 is still a 150 euro phone, but obviously not through resellers that charge as much as possible when a new item is launched at a limited amount. Duh! ;-)
Btw at tradingshenzen the Redmi Note 7 is available in three versions:
3/32GB cost 157 euros
4/64GB cost 187 euros
6/64GB cost 217 euros
The middle one seems like the best deal. 4GB RAM should suit the SD660 just fine and well under 200 euros.

And dont worry if global version come out then the price at first is around 170-190 euro and it will drop to 150 euro in few months. Just like it was with Note 5 ai. I got mine as soon as global version come out in Aliexpress and i bought it for 170 euro the 3GB ram and 32GB rom version. That phone was advertised as 150 euro too. Cause of the demand at first the phone cost more.

Sure price will drop in a few months, but like i said, global version will be more expensive, so even with the drop it will cost around 250e for 6/64 version. No doubt this phone have better design than poco, but poco overall is still better phone overall. My point here is that this phone was marketed as 150e phone with great specs and attractive looks, but in reality it doesnt have that much value as they try to sell to you. Even global rom honor play has better value outside china than this.

They charge as much as they can, because people are willing to pay.
When the Mi Max 3 was launched they added more than $150 to the price on ali, depending on day of the week and time of day it sould be less, but then once more available it got a more correct price, and they have to compete with local retailers seller for just about the same price, even though here in Norway it's gray market (parallel import) for the most part. Only three models sold officially here through one carrier who requires 12 month subscription.
But 250 euros for poco is very cheap. Here in Norway it's quite a bit more, slightly more than 350 euros. Again, parallel import, so high price. Cheaper to import directly from China + tax.
It has a too big notch for me, Redmi Note 7 is better in that regard, but I'm waiting for local release of Mi Mix 3. Or maybe even 3s, considering how long it's taking. I'm going to the Philippines in march and they have pretty much the same prices as in China from what I've seen, so maybe I'll pick one up there, but likely then CN/EN version, and not european languages, so will need to flash etc. and I'm lazy, still have CN ROM on my soon to be 3 years old Mi Max :-)

If they flood the market with RN7 units, they wouldn't be able to clear out inventory with these models.

They need to make sure each and every unit they produce gets sold through. That's the whole point of flash sales. Producing 10 million units at launch would be very risky for them.

You can literally get global pocophone f1 6/64 for 250e, i seriously doubt you will see redmi note 7 6/64 global version cheaper than that anytime soon. The cheapest i see... morePrices on Ali are for "foreigners" and are sold with heafty profits, especially early on when a new model arrives. They will eventually settle down. The base price is 150 euros if purched from an official Mi store in China etc.
But anyways, 250 euros for 6BRAM, 64GB storage, FHD+, SD660 and the potential in this camera is no bad deal. Moto in this range, G6 Plus has 4GB RAM, SD630, more bezels, good camera, but I expect better from the Redmi, and this G6 Plus is still considered as high value device in western markets, and is quite often the recommended phone in this price range. The Redmi has in comparison 50% more RAM, newer and higher model CPU/GPU as well as camera for the same price, that's still a great deal.
And that's the just arrived and "20% over priced" compared to local retail price.

Sooner is better, and they also get feedback from buyers. Of they test the devices as much as they can prior to mass production, but now and then (or pretty much every time in some cases, apple) there are bugs that went unnoticed by beta testers that gets uncovered by a larger audience and the quicker it can be sorted out, particularly if HW related, the better.
Sure, all manufacturers hope for success of a new device, but it's never a guarantee. Starting off with 5 million devices seems a bit much a this point for Redmi. Maybe at a later point.
