15 January 2019
There's talk that smartphone innovation has slowed down and people are sticking to older devices. Foldable screens can change that.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2019All Isocell are lower level compared to their Exmor version... moreSony apologists spreading lies on the internet? How original.
The reason Samsung buys sensors from Sony is because Samsung sell more phones than they can produce sensors for.

    People Complaining
    Foldable phone's are the Future
People are complaining it's Costly then blah blah
Obviously it will be costly & won't work properly
That's how first iteration of any tech is
    It's buggy it's laggy it's Costly
Then the next iteration improves and the advancement continues
    Sooo stop Complaining

That is why they keep buying from Sony.

Isocell are cheaper than Exmor, still most brands choose Sony as supplier.

no, folding-displays are not the future, if they were flip-phones would not have been replaced by touchscreens. see how long they took to come up with such a design and even then they are still not perfect and have their flaws, such a disgrace. the next thing we know, they will find a way to make the display itself vanish without even folding, yet call it innovation at its finest, what does a mere svp know about what the common consumer wants in the next wave?

for me this Is not innovation! this is just wasting money for a phone that only last like 1 or months only coz of that foldable shiit! I very love Samsung phone honestly am using right now a A7 2018 recently bought last December 2018.

but this Samsung now WAY !!

and it will fail - then follow others

The number of trolls here seems to be growing. It's almost like the black plague of trolls. And presumably, none of the trolls have probably used a Samsung flagship before, so have absolutely no idea about the user experience.

Samsung has always been at the forefront of R&D and Android's roadmap has mostly been decided by features already in Samsung Flagships (and UI).

I have to agree with people on the part that Samsung must try and address 3 things in Samsung's Flagships:
                  1. The glass back needs protection. DBrandseems to be doing a good job of making protective cases, but there should be a lot more options. Also preferably ones that seem almost invible while covering the Phone.
                  2. Samsung was one of the first smartphones with HDR in photo and video. Though they probably need to improve that further with varying levels of HDR including super low light and offer more photo codec options including HEIF. Also Samsung needs to work on its Sensor Development even further, ensuring it leads the market on that front. Work in low light and dynamic range, two shortcomings of smartphone sensors.
                  3. Samsung should work on more accessory and software partners for its phones. It needs to facilitate more accessories and software that use Samsung Flagships' unique hardware (and software). And Samsung needs to have its API completely open to help developers make the best possible compatibility with photo and video Apps. I hope a Video Log version is made for Samsung that is as good, if not better than the Filmic Pro LOGV2 for the iPhone XS Max (12 Stops and 140mbps). Samsung could also do with dual video codec options (H264 and H265/ HEVC) to ensure it can get the maximum dynamic rsnhe from its Sensor (native an through HDR).

There could be more design options for its smartphone colours and more textures too (like on the Mate 20 pro). One reason why Samsung may not be doing it, may be to ensure that accessory makers aren't driven away from making phone skins and protective cases for Samsung.

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 15 Jan 2019Innovation? The product isn't even launch. Yet many people ... moreThey won't be wrong though. Look how expensive curved glass is to repair. And funnily enough it was Samsung who went all in on the gimmick.None of the other manufacturers really wasted their time with it because of numerous issues. Same will be true of the foldable phone. Except the price will be doubled. Because 2 screens. Like if you need a screen that big just get a tablet. My regular 5.8" display is fine on my h/set currently and given that it is a phone, and portable, doesn't really need to be much bigger.

Can't wait till the £1500 approximate price-point is revealed in the UK and people finally realise that Samsung (and to a lesser extent Apple who have already been a victim of this in China at the very least) are charging way to much for what is literally going to be a gimmick that will likely be dropped.

So..............where is wave in innovation? He is only talking about innovative technology used for this phone, not about innovation wave that foldable phones will bring us......there is definitely no new service or anything similar that was just waiting for foldable phones in order to introduce itself to a market.

This foldable screen is just a really expensive notch. People will still use the phone for the same things. Unless Samsung has something else new that will make nice use of the foldable screen.

He meant "the next wave of profits" as these phones will easily and completely break when they hit the floor/concrete. Also, I can't believe the open/close mechanism will withstand thousands of fold/unfold actions which further weaken its integrity.

Foldable phones look like a goldmine for the companies which will produce them and like a bottomless money pit for their users. I for one will not upgrade to them ever. Thank you but no thank you.

Cant wait for the chinese brand to make cheaper version of these. A budget version perhaps. Now, proceed with rollable phone please. Even LG already made rollable tv. I believe the asian brands can do it.
