Xiaomi President smashes a walnut with a Redmi Note 7 in slow motion

18 January 2019
That's one way to demo the durability of a phone. And show off the 960fps skills of the Mi 8, which recorded the carnage.

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2019Most of Huawei sales are in China ... Still ppl pay $900 ... moreBecause I'm sure that in China, like in the west, people like showing that they have money. Cellphones are fashion/wealth statements to many people. Most people are also slow to adapt new things and prefer to stick with the same brand as before. Change is scary. Even updates are scary to many users, because the looks might change ever so slightly.

Do you really think your typical mom, dad, aunt or uncle, not to mention grandpartens, etc really need Exynos 9810, SD845, A12 or Kirin 980, or even know what it is? EMUI, MIUI, Touchwiz, vanilla android are all foreign words that makes no sense to your average user.

They just buy the most expensive (they can afford) from a well know brand, because "more expensive = better" and "I've had Huawei, Samsung, iphone before" etc.

Huawei has been around since 1987, Xiaomi since 2010. . .

I love tech, and I've never hesitated to import from China. Still, Xiaomi was completely unknown to me until early 2016. My intereset started with the Mi Max, to replace my Sony Xperia Z Ultra which Sony themselves never replaced. The rest of the western world got introduced to Xiaomi though Mi Mix. And yet in this short time they now have their phones sold even in tiny little Norway with a lot of parallel import due to the demand.

Different markets work differently. India is considered to be one of the most thoughtful markets, where the average phone user shows high level of understanding for hardware. Essentially the average user is well educated on smartphones, instead of just buying the most expensive. Hence Xiaomi is very popular there, because they offer great HW at great price.

I'm not saying that Huawei doesn't do the same, but lately their prices have hiked quite a bit, so thankfully the Honor sub brand is now more like what Huawei used to be.

HMD Nokia did a similar thing as a guerrilla marketing that a Nokia 6 (2017) can break walnuts and stay intact despite using the same metal as the the bendable iPhone 6 Plus.

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2019Most of Huawei sales are in China ... Still ppl pay $900 ... moreXiaomi's marketing strategy works like a blessing and a curse. A blessing because they get popular to savvy people who want a price-to-performance product but also have a good quality. It's also a curse because it being priced too low, people especially on those who live in developed countries perceive this with skepticism. People in China tend to buy well-known brands than Xiaomi because of this perception, because even them thinks that a knock-off price is a knock-off product. How much more to those around the world would think that a product sells for a cheap price from an almost unheard brand?

I have been kind of a fan of Xiaomi phones for a while now. I started with the Mi3 followed by several Redmi's and have only be dissapointed by the Mi3 and even then it became a briliant phone once someone figured out that the issues where linked to an improper so called stable version. After the update the phone got a second and durable life of 3 years hassle free. My different Redmi phones where fantastic as well. Of course never 100 % flawless but never up to a level that it became irritating. Compared to other brands such as Samsung, HTC, Sony and others the level of flaws wasn't that much higher while the purchase price of these ones are at least the twice the amount for less power. Living in Europe I was forced to by trough Chinese websites but once I found a damn good one I never encountered issues with it. Compared to my very fist Chinese phones that where all illegal clones of iPhone and other brands with crappy Mediatek CPU/GPU (back that is) the current generation of Chinese phones are damn good!
In short there are the best bang for the buck up to a point where it's almost criminal.
So if haven't owned one you can't share a objective post to this article regardless of the initial intend of the video (for which I don't get the point either...)

I don`t think that one was 960 fps video, that should be way slower, on XZ1 you barely can see movement when you use it. I think it was 120 or 240 fps at max.

Xiaomi is a really good brand, it offers a ton of good quality budget gadgets and phones. I bought a Redmi 4x for ~150 euro and gave it to my father. Initially he was like what is this chinese crap nobody knows or heard about, but after a few days he started showing off with it because it has everything for a low price, and he loves it.

Also MI 6 is a performance beast, with really good camera. Performance wise is better than almost every phone from 2018, even tough uses S835 chipset. Only thing you can dislike about Xiaomi is the UI...

Most selling phones are Xiaomi and Huawei. Apple and Samsung are least selling phones along with Sony and LG.
Honestly i can say on Xiaomi devices o have the least compains as well.
                                  Their quality is outstanding.
Until you wont try you wont realize how good are they.
And that they are rightfully one of top 5 phone companies in the world.

I can buy all thosee brands flaship in a very competitive price. My friend in Europe told me that he bought Huawei much more expensive than in my country. Good for me hahaha...
