Windows Phone is officially obsolete, Microsoft tells users to switch to Android or iOS

18 January 2019
This is the end of a beloved smartphone platform as Microsoft shifts efforts to support its services on the two majority platforms.

I'm rocking the Lumia 950XL I bought just 3 days ago. Been a hardcore fan of Windows Phone since 2014 with the Lumia 520, 1020 and 929 (Icon), and as a Current Windows Phone user it is very sad and indeed tremendously heart breaking to know that I can't have a Microsoft Ecosystem like I previously could, because i am a Microsoft die hard fan, enough to have bought myself this phone this late in the game. I won't be switching until WhatsApp drops support for Windows Phone, but i hardly know where else to go. I've considered the Galaxy S8 or S9 but I don't know, Android phones don't attract me as much as Windows Phone gained my heart. I'd love to see the Surface Phone become a reality but until then (and i know those are rumors) I'd likely never be as eager to buy a phone just as much as i dd with Windows Phone all these years.

I still have two 640 and one 640XL running 8.1,
Does the things I need ok and excellent cellular reception, with very good battery life and can replace batteries, will use untill they fail, did have a 650 on windows Mobil 10 compared
to 640's an inferior phone, best phone I had was a Nokia L800 on windows phone 7 sadly missed.

      Well... sad day...

Several years ago I decided to give Windows Phone a try. After less than a week I undestood why the platform wasn't popular. The choice of apps is limited and the interface is just not user-friendly, and I realized that it was doomed, just like Symbian before it. To this day I'm puzzled by why Microsoft (and Nokia of earlier this decade) allowed that to happen. It seemed like a no-brainer to me that the platform needed a major facelift. I had the same feeling about Symbian in 2010 and wondered why Nokia was not seeing how iOS was destroying Symbian in spite of its popularity at the time. Nokia manged to shoot itself in both feet; once by not developing Symbian enough, and again by adopting Windows Phone when even I could tell that the platform was headed toward obsolescence.

I do DoorDash and sometimes Postmates. Will eventually do GrubHub. WP lacked all those apps for drivers. It also didn't have a Uber or Lyft app for drivers.

Totally failure with their app store.

My last word for you, please dont come back. There are no more room for new OS in this world. Stick with making affordable laptop and tablet. That is where you can strike them all. No one is making flagship android tablet anyway.

                    My Window Phones -
                    Samsung Focus (2011-2012)
                    Nokia Lumia 635 (2015)
                    Microsoft Lumia 640 (2016-2017)

The first two were actually stolen. The latter had an excellent camera for $30. Also had great reception. Sounded like a landline phone.

I sorta miss that Lumia 640 but I don't miss the software at all. I actually loved the software at first but they barely had the essential apps I needed.

I didn’t even know WP was still around.

                    RIP WP

M$ wasted their chance in the mobile arena, with all their indecision on which direction to go...and wasted alot of peoples time and money along the way, no wonder it failed. Did you learn anything from this M$? (I doubt they did myself)

The only good thing about it is that it is much smooth than android and optimized really well. The end.

They seriously had a great OS back in the day, quite stable and fast, and one which had it's fair share of fans. Had MS given a bit more push, which they easily could have, we would have had a serious competetor to Android today.

No comments. MS is no longer capable of designing and building OSes.
