SohailSays, 22 Jan 2019Now you have to carry your wireless charger everywhere in o... moreThe back should be removable via some internal mechanism (which is only enabled via the phone, so no external points of failure) pop up a plug and become chargeable on the wall.

So instead of having to carry a charger (of any kind) you carry a second battery which even if you forgot to charge you can charge anytime as it has its own plug/ac adapter on its own.

Just do it!

And then no chargers, basically infinite battery (as you can charge your battery while using your phone elsewhere), no reason to repair the battery (just throw it and buy a new one).

Not that it will happen as they love planned obsolescence , hpwer it *is* the best phone money can make/buy.

The end form of phones would be Westworld like folds that turn from tablets to three folded phones.

I don't care about buttons, but stop making these slippery glass phones!

PepperPot, 23 Jan 2019I don't buy the patent argument at all regarding the chin. ... moreRegarding your 4th point, apple sues over everything. They even at one point patented that "bounce" feature in the UI when at the end of a menu and Motorola gotted banned from sales because of it.

If you are referring to clones, typically from no names (internationally speaking) such as goophone x, their point is to make it as cheap as possbile and OLED displays are not used in clones. LCD screens don't like folding and require chin.

PepperPot, 23 Jan 2019I don't buy the patent argument at all regarding the chin. ... moreI don't care what you "buy" or not. You should be perfectly capable of finding apple's patent on this, as it is publicly available and I've grown tired of posting it over and over.

Yes, one would believe that Samsung, LG or others would have patented just about any imaginable use for OLED, but they havent. Apple has very many patents related to use of OLED panels and flexible displays, despite not being a display manufacturer. The same is true for other cellphone manufacturers.

Yes, it is insane that a company (in this case apple) can patent a certain use of another company's technology (in this case the OLED displays of Samsung and others). Patent system is great for protecting a small up and comer, but nowadays it's the bug boys competing on patenting any though they possible have and not anything they can, or even plan, to make.

This has nothing to do with edge/infinity display not the various folding phones we're seing. It has strictly to do with the panel folding back in itself (invisible part) and hence not needing any space below.

Here you have the fold depicted and this is patented:
              https://goo.gl/images/FwvgDR

This patent does not mean that we won't get other phones with 4mm, or less chins. It just means they have to figure out another way to do it. Lenovo is just about there on their Z5 Pro series, but of course they have come even further along with regards to the other sides, so while it's chin is a lot slimmer than most other phones (even bezel like one such as Honor Magic 2 and Mi Mix 3), because it has such slim sides, it ends up looking more like a tri-bezelless device. Again, this is when viewed in photos, in practical use that bottom bezel in invisible.

Samsung is both a cellphone manufacturer and a sub supplier to others. If Samsung denys apple their panels, then apple just get their panels from someone else. That would no make sense from Samsung's point of view.

Marco M, 22 Jan 2019The reason why apple's new iphones have "no chin" is two-fo... moreI don't buy the patent argument at all regarding the chin.
                  1) Samsung already has screens that wrap around the side. They've been working on bending screens for 10+ years now. Nobody at Samsung thought they would wrap the screen around the top or bottom of the phone in the future? Sounds unlikely.
                  2) Expanding on my 1st point, Samsung provides Apple with screens. They're not going to cripple themselves by giving away technology to Apple they can't use for their own gain.
                  3) They don't need to wrap the phone around the bottom. All they need to do is bring the screen to the bottom. They can do exactly what they do on the side.
                  4) Since when does Apple's competitors respect Apple's patents. If anything we would see knock-off iphones with a full screen and none of them have it.

I believe there is a reason other than the patent.
More than likely Apple figured out a way to use the bendable technology that is separate from what Samsung has and it won't stop Samsung from creating full screen phones. The other players will probably find a work around as well.

kuba, 22 Jan 2019Probably back side of the phone is a mirror, so you can use... moreThat would be an okay solution, albeit a somewhat silly cop-out solution. (My ancient Sony Ericsson T630 had a bubble mirror around back for selfies!)

Two things though, any kind of case would need to be removed for selfies, and no video calls.

Honestly it looks like another pop out camera.

If people weren't so narcissistic that a front camera is an absolutely necessary feature on a phone, then thin(>3mm), uniform bezels would be easier to do and we wouldn't need notches or holes in our displays.

tbh, i suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder, ocd for short. The slightest screen scratch, dust particle or any misalignment drives me nuts on any equipement i got or use, specially phones, cars, well, basically everything i own.
Having seen the samsung s10 leaks it's a big no for me. If there's a hole in a screen then it's should be dead centered.
That's why i'm still sticking to my oneplus 5T, everything is perfectly alligned even tho it has bezels.
