30 January 2019
Q4 was contentious as both giants lost ground, however Huawei shot up 47%. Xiaomi had a poor Q4, but solid full year performance.

Nick, 30 Jan 2019Xiaomi and huawei volumes come from low and mid end. Most o... moreContracts for phones are American way of doing things, which covers 90% or more of the iphone sale and 85% Samsung phone sale in USA market. It has nothing to do with phones from Huawei and Xiaomi. On the the other hand, Samsung offers free phones in Europe when a Samsung TV is sold:

In Italy, you get a free Samsung phone (typically middle-tier phones) when a you buy a Samsung TV or an appliance.

In several Eastern European Countries, you buy a Samsung TV, you get a free phone (typically low-end phones) for each member of your family, up to 4 phones per family.

This is how Samsung phone sales are stacked up.

      Apple's sales plummeted..

      Q4 2017 : $61,104mil / $618(average selling price) = 99 million iPhone sold(roughly)

      Q4 2018 : $51,982mil / $793 (average selling price) = 65 million iPhone sold(roughly)

That's a drop of around 34 million units or 34%.. No wonder they hide the actual units sold.. It is significantly worse than 15% drop in revenue.. If the trend continues the iPhone will only have 2 years to live before nobody buys any iPhone anymore

With the rate at which they are going on increasing their phone's MRPs, this rate of declining sales is expected. Developed countries have the luxury of carrier subsidies, whereas there are none in the developing countries. Apple should seriously consider their pricing strategies in India and China before it becomes too late.

They are considering price adjustments of their models in two of world's largest markets to resurrect dying iPhone sales. That shows Apple has to care about these countries to stay relevant.

It's like having car 1 get you 100 miles on a 7 gallon tank or car B (Huawei) can get you 150 miles but on a 12 gallon tank. Huawei phones are not efficient or optimized and they are clearly using bigger batteries to make up for lacking optimization.

What did Huawei do ever other than copying?
Have they developed an idea? Have they created any trends?
No and no. They just copy apple and samsung who spend the most on r&d and the make clones badged with a new logo. Plus they just play the number game. Apple released dual camera? We’ll do the same, u know what let’s put 3. Oh Apple put a notch? Let’s put the same notch for no reason. Oh Samsung puts a punch hole? We’ll do the same!

Huawei is not a real brand and everyone bragging about having one should be ashamed. It’s just another chinese company playing the number game while copying the leading brands.

End of the day the phone gets great battery life, better than its competitors.

Nobody goes to a car dealership and asks about "tank capacity for tank capacity", they just want a car that will get them further.

                              Let's get real here.

In any case, if I want to squeeze a ton of Battery Life more I can throw my Mate 20 Pro into Power Save (something I never have to do) and it still will outlast its competitors.

OnePlus don't spend on R&D and piggyback off the like's of Samsung who spend a fortune on R&D. The only reason you can enjoy an AMOLED display on a OnePlus is because of the huge spend from Samsung on developing and improving the tech. That is why you pay a higher price for Samsung phones, because of the high costs they have. OnePlus don't innovate, just copy. Samsung give a free gift on launch, and then later on drop the price. In many places, the S line from Samsung costs a similar amount by the time the OnePlus comes out. I can't understand why anyone would buy a OnePlus, unless they just aren't smart enough to realise that Samsung drop the price by the time the OnePlus device comes out.
