LG will continue making phones, despite financial losses

LG never fail to amuse me. They keep removing great features from their phones, they offer inferior versions of their mobile devices in select markets and every year they say that they are going to restructure their mobile marketing division due to low sales.
Yesterday I was about to buy G8s. I was literally on my way to the store when I realized that the G8s does NOT include the QUAD DAC, which G8 has. And that was it. I was no longer interested in their phone because the QUAD DAC is the only major feature, which makes LG's phones stand out from the crowd. Without the QUAD DAC, this is just an inferior phone, which doesn't offer much over its competitors for the amount of money they are asking for the phone. There are far better options for the same price which do include some of the features, which LG removed from its G series (IR Blaster LG IR BLASTER!!).
And it wouldn't be bad at all that they are offering budget versions of their flagship IF they were offering the G8 as well. But this is where they fail. I was going to buy the G8 if it was available in Bulgaria or in Europe as a whole, but LG decided that Europe will only get the basic non-quad dac S version. So I am not sure how they expect to sell more phones, I always thought that smart people are working in LG.

Too many of phones had problems. Bootlop in the LG G3 then G4 (ridiculous amount), then V1 (again?) , V2 . , and other phones with problems too. I'm not sure about newer models but they seem never addressed the issue, of all of those of G4 only few with warranty got fixed.

LG HTC they are alike.
Soon Samsung will join low sales track.
Chinese brands outsells everybody bvecause for a much less money they offer much better devices.
When all the competition will go nuts then chinese phones will raise prices and start profiting a lot.

Failure with G series decisions, led to relegation from A list to others. Some risky design choices(modular g5), photography failures(g4) and weak chipset, plus loop issues completely killed of LG fans and future buyers. What didint help either was keeping premium price of devices like HTC, even company was relegated to "others" category and didimt mean nothing to people when it comes to brand power or marleting.

LG phones need hype.
if they upgrade their expandable storage into microSDUC or even UHS-III instead of removing so, as well as keeping that 3.5mm, then none will win over LG
one more thing is that LG flagships are shock evident which as far as i know, almost only this company is in the cards carrying MIL-STD-810G

The main problem with LG is they don't listen to consumers. They just need to make a phone with OLED display, Stock android without any software customisation, 4000 mAH battery and price it below $750 at start. This can give oneplus a run for its money.

Vineet290, 05 Feb 2019Oneplus creates more hype than this one of the most experie... moreThey are selling the G7 thinq cheaper than the OP6T and overall as a flagship the G7 is a better device but still no one has ever a phone called the G7 except for the some people who are really into smartphones and computers. Shame on their Indian marketing team they could have just advertised the fact that you are getting a phone with 1000 nits brightness, IP68 rating, SD845 with 4GB RAM, dual rear cameras with secondary ultra wide lens, 4k HDR recording, audiophile grade headphone jack and many more flagship goodies for just 30000 INR. People would have went crazy considering the trust LG has as a brand in India.

sanchoS, 05 Feb 2019i had lg g2 and i loved it. after that lg forgot designing ... moreCAMERA- Yeah you are right it took them long to adopt the 1.4 micron, but the V30 with 1 micron still shot great photos.
DISPLAY- LG V40s OLED display is pretty good.
FINGERPRINT- the rear sensor on the G7 and V40 is working great underdisplays not a major missing point for LG.
SOFTWARE- I find the Chinese UIs worst except the Oxygen OS and LGs UI offers tons of customizations I also like the tabbed settings menu.
CHARGING- They do support QC4 as per Qualcomms website. The V40 also supports fast wireless charging.
RELIABILITY issues are history the G7 and V40 have no such issues.
So none of the above are major flaws in present LG flagships. THE REAL problem is they make a great phone but screw up pretty bad in a cruical area. The V30 was a great phone in terms of camera, audio quality and battery life too but they screwed the display. Now they fixed it with the V40 but they screwed the battery. Seriously if V30 with SD835 gave 90 plus hours endurance then why couldn't the V40 with SD845 cross at least 80 ?
Also they price their products ridiculously high in other countries but in India LG seems to got spot on with their prices for the G7 and V40. Also I like the fact how fast their prices drop.
Hope LG gets the things right now this year.

"However, the CEO of LG Electronics, Qiao Yujin, has stated that the company will not be leaving the mobile phone business."
Who is this Qiao Yujin? Since when did Jo Seong-jin get replaced by this Qiao as LG Electronics' CEO? Did Mr. Qiao really say that LG "have not considered exiting the smartphone business"?

Their low-end phones are always behind the competition. Why was the LG K4 £90 when released, there were so many better phones in the same price range.

LG is a great manufacturer. I suppose elsewhere, as like Greece with economic crysis, all are looking to spend as less as they can (with the best characteristics!!!) or they bought the first brand in sales like Samsung. But when you buy a phone, you don't just buy characteristics. My old phone after 4,5 year was great and the battery lasts over 2 days, with perfect construction like new, all these years. The new one, a simple Lq Q7, is again a great phone. It is a little slow and maybe the sound isn't perfect, but it offers many others. Thank you LG.

LG should sell their smartphone division to a more competent company that knows what they're doing.

AnonD-558092, 04 Feb 2019Yeah. They have reasonable sales in Korea, USA and Canada. ... morePoint taken. All they have to do is undercut the prices of the giant, but still offer more than say OnePlus and other mid-range

I've given LG an honest try and their UI is just dated. It's a disservice to their hardware.

indiefund, 05 Feb 2019Agree on that, I didn't express it earlier because I would ... moreThis new generation of price-performance-ratio obsessed consumers will be the death of many good, reliable, and venerable companies like Sony and LG, in favor of companies like Xiaomi and Oppo with no real history or achievements/innovations. Sad times we live in...

LG should stop making smartphones now. They bring nothing new to the table and their software updates suck. They also had problems with their devices in the past (G4 bootloop, Nexus 5X bootloop, G3 overheating), some of which are still present even today. At this rate, they will just keep losing money because people are not interested in them because of the aforementioned reasons.
