DON'T BOTHER READING THIS ARTICLE. Apple should have done this and kept it honestly IN THE FIRST PLACE, to keep the flee market off-brand chargers that AREN'T and DONT work well IN THE FIRST PLACE, You end up sol the minute you give some guy that YOU SHOULD KNOW is DEFINITELY Sketchy and it will stop working after a day or few.
This Case is Honestly GARBAGE, IF it was a good thing to use the third party FLEA MARKET and/or GAS STATION charger (Like gas station sushi you won't want to buy it!)
In Apple doing this they are (In My Opinion) SAVING YOU FROM GETTING A CHARGER THAT IS FAULTY AND MAY MAKE YOUR iPHONE Or any iDevice (Maybe even AirPods) for that matter BUGGY And MAY DEGRADE YOUR BATTERY FASTER!
PS: Based this off of facts I KNOW are TRUE,^But is also my opinion, Not trying to make anyone triggered. If you are triggered let me know by replying (Like that'll prove your knowlege, but you can try though¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People who still use old chargers are luddites who are scared of progress. Get on with the times.
Buy a dongle for the new propriety charger or use wireless charger.

You are still mesmerised by that SJ quote "a serious software developer should manufacture his own hardware?
A piece of software is good, mainly to it's versatility.
Ofcourse, it's easier to develop something that works great only on one hardware configuration. But, that's just lazy.
Plus, modern mobile CPU architecture is identical until one point. So, if you know what you're doing, you should be able to add correct instruction in OS for other "type" of SOC

It's time to wake up guys :-) They are just robbing us in the nicest fashion. I own an iPhone 6s(which I recently changed the battery for $29 INR-2000 :P), Anything apple you touch, from the headphone which is a low quality that breaks often to the charger(again I need not say about the bad quality!!), all are at a premium price to cleverly loot us. I have kept my iPhone and now switched to Oneplus 6 :) Never going back to apple again! If they would have given quality for the money paid I would have still recommended it, they lost the trust with these kinds of cheap ways to make money.

There is no point in complaining from my part. Apple will still have customers buying their products. There are people willing to shell out money for apples anti consumer style of business. Let them.
A company that messes with chargers via updates and keeps quiet about it isnt a company to take seriously.

That’s why iPhones are so fast, due to hardware and software integration by the same company. But i guess you’re not the only one who thinks like this.
