George, 07 Feb 2019Xiaomi quality is super dodgy compared to Moto bro. As f... moreNot waaaaay better, in the early Android years they were crap (Some phones that came with Android 2-4 would never get any official version bumps) until Google bought them out. Google made them great again by creating the G mid-range series and giving regular software updates. Lenovo didn't necessarily make them worse, but they made them closer to the pre-Google Motorola. That said, under Lenovo they launched the Moto Z series and promised to maintain mod compatibility for 3 generations (Which they've fulfilled) and if you're not turned off by 16:9 AR and the SD835, the Z2 Force can be found for a decent price (And the screen is good for those who tend to drop their phones). The Z3 is a copy of the Z2 Force with a 18:9 display (Which, unfortunately, is easy to crack) and a higher price so skip that one. The Z series would be able to use 5G with a mod so they're quite future proof. I'm just sad that the Livermorium keyboard mod was cancelled, that was the best mod the phone could've ever gotten.

Well... I'm not surprised that they went for the SD636, it's Motorola after all. Ever since they announced the Moto X4 and people were told to look forward to SD660 (And then got the SD630) it seems that they always tease better specs so that they could disappoint everyone at the last moment.
The good things about the G7 Plus though are the OIS (It's about time that mid-rangers got this) headphone jack and (for me) an LCD screen. But the motorola text on the front panel... ugh...

Something about the price-to-performance ratio is not right with these. Hopefully the prices come down with time.

Absentee features & info: RAM frequency & type, Audio format & bitrate, non-existent Magnetometer yet again (!), any type of AF & stabilization on selfie cameras, how loud are the speakers, seemingly no systemwide dark theme setting.

Even the G7 plus uses the underwhelming SD 636 when the other counterparts are providing SD 660 at almost half the price. The only great thing about Moto phones was quicker updates but that has gone down the drain too. Now why would anyone buy these phones at all?

These phones are a joke.
If they put them on china they would not sell a single unit.

Looks fun. Interesting "soapy" design. If you think about it, Moto experimented a lot back when it was an independent American phone maker.
They only thing Lenovo overlords tend to screw up in Motorolas is software support :(

Anonymous, 07 Feb 2019you can get Xiaomi sd636 for 150-170 dollars right now, so ... moreXiaomi quality is super dodgy compared to Moto bro.
As for the news, the Plus has 4GB RAM not 3. I've been to the event in Spain.
Motorola is waaaaaay better under Lenovo, they sold 80 million G6 in 2018. That's waaay better than it did under Google.
They also keep the pure Android experience and are really proud of it.

dladz, 07 Feb 2019use your head pal, they're stupidly popular for one reason.... moreI am sure you can count the number of smartphone brands that you are aware of on your fingers, and that too of just one hand lol.
Since Lenovo took over, Moto is far far FAR FAR (can't stress on the "far" enough) from being even decent value.
Even Samsung has come to it's senses now with the M series, and it's quite clear that Lenovo is adamant on totally destroying the Motorola brand.
You can get better specs at half the price of the G7 Plus.

OIS, water protection, usb c, stereo speakers, nice touch. But that 636 is a sigh for 300euro.
But Nokia 7.1 is on the same price range with also a 636. Compare to this, G7plus is better choice.
But Nokia 8.1 is the all rounder.

For £150 you are not going to get a competitor handset which will perform anything close to what one of these will.
Say you've just lost your £1,000 phone and can't afford to spend another grand, 2 year contract?? what are you going to do??
You buy the best bang for buck you can see, and this is where moto comes in.
Not only that but not everyone wants to spend over £200 so these phones offer something that is affordable but fast and stable at the same time.
Lot of people seek these phones out.
