You cracked the glass back of your phone, and complain because of your own mistake. You found other that managed to the the same, SHOCKING!

Motorola offers DIY tools for repair and a new glass back costs $10. Save up your allowance and it will be okay. Ask an adult for help if you're not sure how to do it, despite the step-by-step instructions already provided.

Why in the world some virtual no ones would start telling people what opinions they can share? "Exact match search for any of your examples returns "no results found", actually"

Well first of all I obviously shortened down the SGS name, and secondly your browser must be broken then. Because each of the yields results even when called on SGS7,8,9 and SGS9 gives a whopping 674 000 results.

LG and Moto have had a similar market share lately and Moto does not post sales volume per model. SGS series also have declining sales and while obviously selling more than X4, it's not likely that the base model S8, S9 etc (not plus) sells 20 times more.

Quit your crying, it's only annoying and has nothing to do with Moto's build quality, except that it is glass back. Like any other glass back phone, it can crack.

Exact match search for any of your examples returns "no results found", actually. You do the search probably for "cracked" or "back" or "for" or "LG", that totally explains the results. Old lady's mistake, you know...
And why do you have to listen to old women complaints all the time? What business are you in, Marco!? :-)

              Glass can crack
              Tempered glass can crack
              Laminated glass can crack
              Chemically toughened glass can crack.

Both the front and back glass on Moto X4 is gorilla glass 3. It doesn't crack any easier than other.s

The same complaint you have for the X4 is something I've seen many times before on other phones. LG G7, SGS7,8,9 and just about any Sony Xperia with glass back.

You want numbers? Fine, let's pretend I know you and so in total I know five people with the X4, one of which cracked the back of his phone, so that's 20% - which is very high.
But that's a very tiny group of people, and not at all represenative. . .

Everyone I know with SGS7 has a cracked back, so that amounts to 100%, but again, not very representative.

              Google gives me
12 million hits on cracked back for SGS7
9.97 million hits on cracked back for SGS8
1.26 million hits on cracked back for LG G7
0,5 million hits on cracked back for Moto X4

A typical complaint I hear, from old women, when something goes wrong with their phone, TV or whatever, is that that brand (regardless of which it is) is awful and they will never get anything from them ever again. Essentially, thinking that that very small percentage of error that the product has just happened to affect them, if that even was the case and no incorrect us, is representative for all of their devices.

Yes, changing the camera glass is easy. Apply heat, pry off cracked glass (feel free to tape it first), scrape off residue from old adhesive. Apply new adhesive (pre cut ones available), then glass, then apply pressure or - depending on type of adhesive used - apply heat and pressure to seal. Same procedure for the back glass.

No need for any third party shops. IP rating gets you nowhere if the phone is water damaged anyways. As far as third party repair shops go, not all offer waterproof sealing. It's cheaper and easier to use the blank dual sided tape kind of adhesive, compared to the sticky black rubbery on that you can heat seal. Plus it makes it easier for them to open next time. So doing it yourself is faster, cheaper and you can decide for yourself if you want to keep it as waterproof as possible.

Motorola has cooperated with iFixit to make a repair toolkit and you can get official parts through them, if desirable.

"Little percentage": please go count before doing such statements. Or not. What matters is a failure percentage in comparison with other phones. So, yes, please go count.
"Easily replaceable": !? Motorola asks to pay the new phone price for their "easy replacements". And you can say goodbye to your IP68 with the 3-rd party repair shops.
                Etc.

Anon, 11 Feb 2019Unpopular opinion: The G7 Play fits my preferences more th... moreJust like most people on a site dedicated to cars mostly enjoy higher end cars, rather than the cheapest possible, there's a lot of the same here.

Flagship, flagship, flagship. Everything must be flagship performance.

For me, the most important is price-performance, and also I'm a sucker for big screens. So in example I'd happily* take a Mi Max 3 over a S9+, and at about a third of the price :-)

*in all honesty, while the SD636 is decent, at this point I would prefer a minimum of SD660 type of performance.

With regards to the G7 Play though, I find it strange that it has only 2GB RAM, seing as the 32GB version of the E5 Plus has 3GB RAM. It's also a shame that they didn't use the same teardrop notch on all G7 models.

I know the US has very limited to no 4G band support on some of the chinese models. Is that where you are, or are the more places with the same limitation?

As always, for me, it's the Plus model. I've always liked that model.

The rest are a bit "meh", but sadly for Moto the Plus has too much competition in it's price range and it really needs to perform on camera to even be an option. And truth be told the competition boast higher end chipset and 1/2" camera sensor.

Lenovo should know this very well, so why are they slowly killing the name they invested so much in? Getting Lenovo to be a mainstream brand outside of Asia won't be anywhere as easy as putting more effort into Motorola that is already widely available in Europa, Americas etc.

Alex, 11 Feb 2019Complaints about a budget phone not having flagship specs m... moreYou got it all wrong.

Your X4's back didn't crack despite it being in a cover, but because of it.

All it needs is a little sand particle to get wedged in between the case and the phone and everytime you put stress on it your asking it to scratch or break. Had you worn it loose in your pocket, and the same sand particles in your pocket, they would be between your softer clothes and body and therefore significantly less likely to cause a crack.

Glass back = glass protector or vinyl. Essentially something that does not allow for anything to come between the protector and the glass. You can also combine vinyl and case, but praticles can still eat away at the vinyl and eventually reach the glass.

Metal back don't allow for many useful things, such as wireless charging, and it adds cost for antennas as well. Glass back have many positives over metall, but there is one more option - and it is the far superior one. It's plastic. Unfortunately, some view plastic as cheap and glass/metall as expensive/premium, even though plastic is far superior and most people end up with a plastic (based) back cover anyways.

One of my buddies, as well as my father, mother and one colleague all the the Moto X4, and none of them has broken the back glass, although my father broke the glass in the rear camera. It was easily replaceable.

Last thing. All phones fail, no matter the model, not matter the brand. So when you search for Motorola cracked glass, cracked back etc you will find many that has experienced the same. The same is true for any phone. But please note that the likelyhood of this affecting any more than a little percentage is highly unlikely.

                        Poor battery.

Complaints about a budget phone not having flagship specs make little sense.
But I would also recommend to stay away from M for at least one generation, until they will address their quality issues. My X4 cracked within days - being in a pocket, in a protective case. And there is a bunch of similar reports on motorola.com site for X4, G6 and Z3:
"The glass-back shattered into pieces in spite of having protecting back-cover.I had the phone in my pocket", "Back glass cracked and phone bent in my front pocket while sitting at my desk", "2 months before cracking the screen ... I had it in my pocket with a case", "With acase on twice now it's cracked the back of it. In my pocket.", ...
This one is my favorite: "salesman assured me that it wasn't (fragile), then lightly tapped it on the counter. The back shattered!"

If I had a gun pointing to my head I would go for the Power. Nevertheless i´d choose a Nokia instead.

it really pissed me off seeing Motorola abandoning the G5s Oreo update. It´s crucial for the suport that a brand provides to it´s customers. Motorola (Lenovo) is just looking out for sales and numbers, let alone building interesting phones.
