Hypothetical Moto RAZR 2019 rendered on video, looks cool

This design should be thicker than usual not because of it having a bigger battery but just to make the foldable oled to have a curved fold on its joint. Form over function.

The foldable displays have a limited recommended angle to be folded in the corners. If we add that the lifetime of those are limited by the number of folds along the time. This design is insane reducing the longevity of the display by several hundred percent. In a desing like Samsung of other competitors you have a enough big display when folded, that means that you only need to unfold it when necessary for watch tv, work or use it more as a small tablet, plus less aggresive in the angle folded. This one must be unfolded every time you use it. Insane for the life of the display. Simply by physics you'll be destroying it every day.
On the other side, or you make it huge or the impression in the images is that by dividing the chassis by two you'll be only able to add two really tiny batteries. Almost all the depth is chassis folded, what about the battery inside it?
One more thing is the camera... If you unlock it folded to take a photogragh it's ok if the small display allow it. But what about a video call? Or when you want to interact with the UI or other apps along it, at the same time? First all the video or photo will be upside down respecting when folded. Second, when unfolded is not comfortable hold that design in reverse for taking selfies. And you can't watch the main display to interact with it during a video call, use apps, etc. The tiny one is too small.
That are only some problems with it. Looks more a art render than something plausible or that can be done as it is seen in the renders. It seems more like an exercise in imagination done by a fan, not by an engineer who knows the limits of what is possible.

Don't say it's too early to bring this to the market. If Moto/Lenovo knows one thing, it's how to sell a phone before it's working correctly.

This looks uber cool to be honest. I'd like to see this in the flesh even as just a concept phone.

As cool as this looks, it's the worst of both worlds for a user like me. Folded, the screen is too small. Unfolded, the phone (and screen are too big). Getting the dimensions and ergonomics right is going to take some time. I'm not counting on Samsung doing it right either, but at least they have the right idea with a compact-sized, but still usable configuration when folded, and then unfolding to reveal a tablet that can be used for media consumption.

EskeRahn, 09 Feb 2019Sorry to say, but what are you babbling about? I know quite... moreWhat am I talking about? The ergonomics is terrible on that lazy design. They could easily make it a homage to the real Motorola while making comfortable to use. That lip is going to be an annoying deal breaker.
Also, the 180 degree bend on the screen will not work, so it's obviously a fake fan-art, but still...

Kiyasuriin, 09 Feb 2019It's beautifully done... I think Waqar really caught it. bu... moreI think they for simplicity in the rendering, ignored the complex 'onion' like bend of the display film, that is what makes it look imposiible.

Ayva, 09 Feb 2019This is the thing that everybody says it's great but nobody... moreAnd I guess you yourself could easily come up with quite a few other examples where the same could be said?
When did a thing that a broad audience does not find worth the price become undesirable?
(You could start among cars, jewellery or perhaps Haut de couture....)
