Sony Xperia XA3 may actually be called Xperia 10, XZ4 could be the Xperia 10Z

The new name will fit the major shift in design while retaining its lineage (X=10).

Why can't these makers call a thing a thing? Should it have to be a letter and a number? I love Razer products for that. Deathadder, Goliatus, Blackwidow. It's quite discombobulating to remember what device is better than the other in comparison with these numbers and their additions and subtractions what have you.

You know what, Sony? You can keep your bezels. You can keep your chin. Give me a name, and I'll buy your product. Is imagination dead? Has consumerism become a letter and a number to represent the identity of the product? Have we become just numbers to the companies just as their products have become to us?

It used to be a proud moment back in the day when you could tell what you bought without having the trouble of explaining what the name means to someone. Now it goes like this...

    "Hey, new phone?"

    "Yeah, it's a Sony Xperia XZ4"

"How's it? Better than Redmi Note 7 Pro?"

"Maybe. But certainly not as good as Huawei Mate 20 X."

Now we are teenagers and we scoff about these barriers because we are in the middle of it and understand every megapixel about these conversations. But take five years from now. We'll have drifted deep into our respective lives, and buying a phone should be as easy as buying a croissant or a baguette from a bakery: not croissant cream 7 pro or baguette butter 8 plus.

Make life less about numbers and more about identity. These companies can siphon every byte of data from our identities, and they don't even have the decency of presenting a product that is more than a letter and a number for a name.

    Shame.

Probably some silly superstitious thing in Japan about the number 4 being ominous.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2019It seems that sony will die sooner than expectedNot going to happen. Sony is huge, with a very small mobile division. They could keep it alive just to stay relevant in the market. Precisely what they've said a few days ago.
Considering that they make nearly all photo sensors used in today's phones, another being a rare Samsung device with a Samsung IsoCell sensor, they are in the same position now as FujiFilm, where the latter doesn't make any $$$ of their mirrorless cameras, but are rather releasing them as mass market technology demonstrator.

Such an approach seems to be working well for Fuji. Don't see why Sony wouldn't do the same in the mobile world.

The part about customers don't care about brand name but quality of the phone? Sure, only a few people, but the rest are mundane people who care about brand name more than quality.

I had a Xperia X10 back in 2010. Perhaps Sony should go back to using that name as it sounds better than what they have now.

TCL has a device with very similar design.
I do not know if screen is 16:9 or 18:9.

What? That makes no sense. Nobody would remeber this.

They should keep the L name for lower range.. L3...4...

For middle range they could use M. M1...2...3...

                          And for flagships Xperia 10...20...30...

A product can be good but if is not atractive or ugly, it will not sell well. Although in that case the price usually influence too. But Sony usually has high prices in their new models like Samsung or Apple.

Sony is completely lost with naming scheme. They also didn't bring anything new and exciting for a long time, just following where others lead. Your avarage Chinese brand is much more interesting these days.

The only reason they'd do this is to get their product naming in line with their competitors...

Samsung S10, iPhone Xs (read 10s), & thus Sony 10/10z...

Either that, or it's fake news... Doesn't really matter though. What matters is if the product is any good or not. Customers don't care about product names, they care about product quality/features/price & so on.
