It's good that they're starting somewhere - foldable devices are not yet where they need to be but will only improve with time. Also, a foldable device makes sense for gaming in particular (expandable screen real-estate, larger battery).

      Cool.

Either this or do want to be stuck with unfoldable giant slabs with notches forever?

Good idea to keep the screen on the outside.

it would have creases or "stretch marks" overtime, unless the screen is made up of a material that has self-healing, transparent, and somewhat has the characteristics of memory foam. there are self-healing and shape retaining materials that are available now, but have only managed for these to be translucent at best.

If you can really read properly you would know that what I pointed out is not about how small it could get but on how the hinge were designed with regards to the limitations of folding an OLED and how impractical it is when pocketted or when placed in a cramped backpack.

Looks better than my 1000 $ Iphone X.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2019You call that innovation? And what do you think it is? Do you realize all the tech, research, money and work that's behind the development of something like this? do you think one company develops something like this and then they give out the blueprints so every other company can do the same? each company has to do their own research, some may steal something but in the end they all have to work for this advancement to become tangible. I am sure right now these phones are not a good business but they all know that in a few years foldable phones will be the norm and they must be part of it if they wanna be relevant

Foldable phones of the past (like Moto Razr) is "pocketable" due to the fact that they became compact because they fold flat. Vivo's implementation folds-out and oleds could not be fold flat because they need to curve. This means that the folded version will have a hollow space at its joint which will be the weakest point and will break when pocketted or put in a backpack. Yes the OLEDs were flexible but the joints or hinges isn't.

Foldable hp will be the next big trend in hp. That is why phone makers are jumping onto it. Phone makers are very aware that if don't keep up with the trend they risks oblivion. Nokia learned it the hard way.
