15 February 2019
If the latest leaks and rumors are to be believed, it will be more expensive than its predecessor.

My main point is Xiaomi doesn't have the lowest prices anymore. They are getting undercut left and right in China by brands such as Lenovo, Meizu, ZTE, 360, Gome etc. Even vivo has some cheaper phones now like the Z1.

Everytime I have something From Xiaomi and get asked who makes that and told "never heard of em'" Their Design game is brilliant neigh I say 95% Apple quality. I thought these look sick but the Blue/green color flop one looks sick! I gotta get some of that paint!

For today's version of gapps to work, the device must be officially support, or else signing in will not be possible.

None of the Z5 Pro versions are listed as supported, but the standard Z5 is.

                  Lenovo,Z90/VIBE Shot,zoom_fdd,Lenovo Z90

One thing he didn't test, was to use a older version of google play, before the limitations kicked in. But then doing that, if possible, will not make the phone very futureproof.

But yeah, either way their buggy UI and weak camera alone is good enough reason to stay away. Strange that such a company don't do a better job.

The marketing, including the video in the article, also costs and need to be covered by the sale of the phone. Production volume also affects unit price. I assmume Xiaomi's production of the standard Mi 9 is significantly higher than for the Alita and Explorer versions.

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2019Does the theme manager also change the system icons too bec... moreYou heard wrong. All ads related to UI can be disabled in one button (menu setting). I have zero ads on my phone related to MIUI.

However, ads from free apps you download will still exist when using that free app or if the app has permition to post notifications (which can be disabled for spamming apps), as they do on all phones not rooted and with ad blocker.

Perhaps the person heard it from is mixing up this. Not sure which app it was, but my wife once installed som crap on her previous phone (Oukitel Mix 2) that frequently launched full screen ads. It was a bit of a pain to locate as she installed a load of apps all at once. The normal press and hold over a notification to identify and go to settings did not work.

With regards to appearance. All icons can be changed by theme, also system apps, as well as quick setting menu and UI in dialer, contact list etc.

Like I've already mentioned, the special edition will likely come not with 6GB/64GB but probably something like 10GB/256 or even 512GB and probably something else in the box as well seeing it has a connection to this movie. It's a SPECIAL EDITION, get it trough your scull.

Marco M, 18 Feb 2019Talking about the cheapest SD855 already is a bit soon seei... moreYes it's premature. I was responding to a poster who said he's in China, so Chinese phones were used as examples. The upcoming Redmi flagship with SD855 may very well be cheaper than Z5 Pro GT.

I have a buddy who has the Z5 Pro, SD710 version. According to him it was easy to set up Google services, just download GApps from Lenovo's app store. I have similar experiences setting up a Lenovo S5 Pro and Z5s.

The buggy ZUI is a much bigger problem. App crashes, and annoying bugs like the mic and speakers suddenly stop working, which requires a reboot to fix. MIUI provides much better user experience. That's why I said a lower price isn't necessarily better.

What makes this phone any different than the entry-level one? Transparent back alone isn't enough to justify that kind of a price hike along with 5G if it does support it.

I have one of their newest, Mi Mix 3, and no ads here. It's as simple as selecting no to ads in the initial setup. 2018 was not a year of 5G, this year is. This year companies like Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, Vivio etc learned how much Qualcomm asks for its 5G modem.

And again, their flagship Mi 9 still costs only $516.
Yes, they have a special edition that costs more, but that doesn't mean that the Mi 9 starts at $885.
