This year, 5G alone will make for an 75-100 dollar increase in price. A statement one year does not automatically transfer for the next. Xiaomi can't drop 5G to keep the cost down on flagship models this year. But they don't add any more than absolutely necessary with regards to price.

Inflation alone would make the statement invalid over time.

What do you think the SGS10 (top version) will cost? The iphone XI (or whatever the name will be), Pixel 4 (XL) etc. They will all be very pricey compared to the $516 of the Mi 9.

First couple of years Xiaomi positioned itself a bargain company with competitive prices yet quality phones, just like Huawei did. As time progress and you gain fair amount of market share, you slowly push the prices up to have more profit. Huawei now sells phones expensive than Apple. And Xiaomi is no longer a company providing best value for money.

And xiaomi was talking "we don't see reasons why smarthphone would cost 800$" and look where we are. It's kinda intresting, when you launch a phone with price tag of 885$. So how does it work?

Xiaomi has the cheapest SD845 phones (Pocophone F1, Mi 8). Lenovo has the cheapest SD855 (Z5 Pro GT). 360 has the cheapest SD660 (N7 Lite) and SD710 (N7 Pro). Lenovo has the cheapest SD636 (K5 Pro).

However, when you factor in UI, updates, reliability and longevity, it's usually better to pay a little more for that Xiaomi.
