I think its a fantastic idea.
Since it downsamples 48MP to 12MP, we might end up with a sharper daytime image than competitors using f/1.5 lens (Like LG, etc.)!
And better light for the dark too. Best of all worlds in my opinion.

they are an assemble of few pieces of material (either glass in those real camera lens and in this case for mobile phone usually are plastic) on top of light sensor
if you used a camera lens before you should have the idea; focusing of image is done through gap movement between these glass or plastic
so in this Mi 9 camera lens assembly, there are 7 pieces of pastic

Funny that mi9 standard version has lens blur issues on the left side as seen in your camera review, then they release a version with new lens. I think they were aware. My suggestion, wait a few months and avoid the bad early batch.

Did anyone expect me see the different notch designs of the vanilla mi 9 (O- & V-Notch) during the presentation? Look at the pictures from the presentation. First it had an O-Notch, later a V one, except the Mi 9 SE which was shown with a V-Notch all the time. That's weird.

leugimrc, 21 Feb 2019entirely. lolOKay i´ll explain: The “P” they are referring to “Pieces” which in turn seem to refer to Elements.(as they told in the text) They place several other glass inside the lens barrel to obtain a certain level of zoom, sharpness, etc. The right term for those glasses is ELEMENTS. Several elements make up for a lens. These lenses are usually pricey. and xiami instead of 5 or 6 they put 7P(Elements).
