The Galaxy Fold doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, but it does have something on top

21 February 2019
It's just not clear what it is. The Fold wasn't ready for reviewers when it was unveiled on stage yesterday.

Samsung is trying to hide the screen from the public. It has ripples just like the other foldable device.

    "Cables are old fashion stuff."

I was on a flight and they said Bluetooth headsets are not allowed during the ENTIRE duration of the flight. I found this unusual. Even though phones on flight mode are allowed, but bluetooth use radio airwaves, hence flight mode incompatible.

"And given the $1,980/€2,000 price, we don’t expect many Fold buyers to complain they can’t use wired headphones."

You can actually REMOVE EVERY phone feature there is (not just the 3.5mm jack and micro sd storage expansion). Just retain the folding screen feature and it will still be attractive to its target market - the early adopter, 'money no object' market. It may even attract iPhone users (though only the truly rich, non-loyalist ones). It's all about bragging rights really, more than usability, function and substance.

Nobody buys this phone to truly enjoy its use as a two-in-one 'phone and tablet' device because it simply is far too MEDIOCRE to perform as both a phone and tablet and far too PRIMITIVE to provide a truly satisfactory, seamless, phone-tablet convertible experience. It's too small to be enjoyable as a smartphone when folded, and far too small to be truly immersive and put to productive use as a tablet when unfolded.

I'm sure Samsung can still improve it though in future iterations. But until then, I'm not buying it. I don't want to buy something that is initially so fresh, cutting edge and breathtaking, but once the folding capability, the folding novelty and folding excitement fades away, I am left with a mediocre phone experience and worse, an even more mediocre tablet experience. And that's not all. In the product unveiling, I am seeing possible touch screen sensitivity issues (multiple taps to launch an app) as well as battery life issues (it was connected to a charger the whole time).

I suppose those issues have to do with the scratch sensitive plastic display and folding capability which are bound to introduce touch screen, screen durability (being plastic and exposed to more rubbing), and long term screen legibility/transparency issues (being plastic). Hopefully Samsung will sort them out in future Galaxy Fold iterations, assuming this first iteration will be a roaring success like the first Galaxy Note.

with so much real estate space for that phone, Samsung can't even put in one 3.5mm jack?
they just want to do away with 3.5mm jack and sell more wireless earphone/device

            This is tab not phone

I thought the extra port is for Samsung DeX? No?

But we all have our favorite specs. But soon Jack will be history.

It looks a lot like the speaker on the Galaxy J7 2018, but that wouldn't make sense as the speaker grill is already on the bottom (unless they wanted sound on both sides?).

I would have finished that sentence at 'buyers'

That unknown port might be for modularity.

Not even Samsung can break the laws of physics and fit a headphone jack in places where they don't fit.
Spoiler alert: At some point in the future even the USB port has to go, because one day 4 mm will be considered a thick phone.

Yes people don't care about the jack. They are just buying it to show off. A sane person won't go for a foldable phone for a while.
