Not directly taking a position in the DxO discussion but I would like to add some information:

1. Companies are paying DxO to do the benchmark on their phone. There definitely is a conflict of interest.

2. DxO releases benchmark results only if the phone company approves of the results. If not, the results are never published. Every company has the ability to suppress their DxO score if it doesn't look good. Meaning: every DxO result you will see is a filtered happy world.

3. Phone companies can pay DxO to teach them how the test is made and how they could improve the phone to score well on the test. While that at first glance sounds like "that means photos get better" its implication is that companies can optimize their phone to score well on the benchmark which doesn't correlate with producing better pictures. It is the same as if a teacher hands out tests beforehand for you to learn the questions. You will probably score very good in that test but it doesn't mean you learned anything.

Nick Tagataka, 22 Feb 2019So you use a flash on your phone when you take a picture of... moreOf course but shouldn't having a flash adds a little score? Wait this is way out of topic.. You are such an ignorant.. We are talking about the bias of the DxO scoring.. I put up the evidence there that clearly shows how bias the DxO when testing 808 over the iPhone and Samsung.. Here let me try again..

"In bright light, the Nokia 808’s 41MP sensor captures good levels of detail with handheld shots and when using a tripod. Considering the high-resolution chip, however, levels of detail in the best examples from the Nokia 808 aren’t significantly more detailed than newer but lower-resolution devices such as the iPhone 7 or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

On sharp images without blur the level of detail at 100% recorded by the Nokia 808 is on par with, but not significantly better than, the detail potential of some of the best performing recent devices, as you can see in the 100% crops below."

        Now focus on the statement

"levels of detail in the best examples from the Nokia 808 aren’t significantly more detailed than newer but lower-resolution devices such as the iPhone 7 or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge"

        and

"the level of detail at 100% recorded by the Nokia 808 is on par with, but not significantly better than, the detail potential of some of the best performing recent devices"

This is a clear BIAS and why DxO is officially BS.. I rest my case

Xypleth, 22 Feb 2019Holly hell, the amount of smearing is unbelievable at lower... moreHave to agree with you. Samsung has not kept up with the competition.
And their fame DOF blur algo edge detection still sucks - just look at the hair on the selfies.

The last Oracle, 22 Feb 2019Samsung needs to work om the noise reduction. Texture and n... more"The S10+ maintains good target exposure for video across all light levels, thereby achieving better low-light exposures than some competitors—for example, the iPhone XS Max, although the XS Max delivers better dynamic range, thanks to its video (being in) HDR. This said, for a non-HDR video mode, the S10+ offers very good dynamic range."

Hopefully once Samsung implements the HDR10+ video standard for its smartphone video, things should improve a lot more. I also hope Samsung works with Filmmic Pro for Log for super cinematic video. Or even better still, Creates Its OWN Hight Bitrate (upto 150mbps) Video Log Profile for content creators and filmmakers (with LuTs), with over 12 Stops of dynamic range (preferably in 10-bit 4-2-0). This could be a Paid update, to encourage further developments.

Lyndino, 21 Feb 2019I know nothing about DXO but why is it pure b.s? DXO is not pure BS, it's a valid reference, but I trust my eyes more than what is written ; )
                    https://www.dxomark.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-camera-review/

Samsung needs to work om the noise reduction. Texture and noise usually rank low on it, and the S10 seems to be pushing it even further than the S9. If Samsung can correct these, as well as have an excellent pre-burst setting for photo and video (9 frames captured for checking exposure, colour etc Before the photo is actually taken) it could improve its image even further.

The Dynamic Range and colour seem to have been substantially improved.

I am guessing the DXOMark testing was done non-HDR and before the HDR10+ standard video is implemented. Which probably means that the video quality should further improve, once that is done. And hopefully noticeably.

The only downside is, that, there is slight corner softness in the portrait photos, which can be improved with software, but cannot be completely removed, except with a crop, since it is due to the selection of which camera is used for portraits. But, I guess no camera can be perfect, though this probably comes one of the closest.

NipponFan, 22 Feb 2019Dear I doubt Sony bothers to even check that site lol... No... moreUse your eyes not your ignorance.. I have spoon fed you the evidences and even then you failed to see the bias of DxO's judgement.. Instead you keep clamoring about Nokia being Chinese.. I guess you can only bring a horse to the water but NEVER force them drink.. To add to your tiny collection of information, the Nokia 808 in that review was conceived in 2012 well before Nokia's been sold..

Neither of the video samples was written in 60 fps, right? Because, well, 1080p sample seems like it was rendered in a poorly optimized video game with shadows popping up all over the place, 4k sample looks much better, but still lacks in framerate.

It could be just me and my 2.5k monitor (2560x1440) together with youtube compression algorithms, since 4k looks so much smoother (but moving the camera to the side made me think I'm watching a slide show).

Is there an option to record 60fps? Can you show some sample videos? My 3 generations old S7 can do 60 fps @ 1080p.

                              In DxO's words
"In bright light, the Nokia 808’s 41MP sensor captures good levels of detail with handheld shots and when using a tripod. And DxO continues
"On sharp images without blur the level of detail at 100% recorded by the Nokia 808 is on par with, but not significantly better than, the detail potential of some of the best performing recent devices, as you can see in the 100% crops below."

                              not significantly better???

DxO is BS.. I've put my evidence here and you can cross reference it with the 808 review on DxO.. Don't spout BS unless you brought your evidence here

We all know Samsung flagships are consistently one of the most well rounded phones on the market and get many things right every year, but this time camera is certainly not one of them. As far as I can tell this is just Note 9 camera with an extra lens, and you know, they can't just slap on ultra wide angle lens and call it new cameras, they needed to make some improvement in pure image quality too. If they just leave it as it is right now, S10 will have a hard time competing upcoming XZ4, Nokia 9 PV and P30 Pro in camera department.. and this can cause a serious issue to Samsung because many people just buy their phones mainly for, or even just for the camera nowadays.
