Ads are how Xiaomi makes its money.

Companies like Samsung would charge more than 1000 USD as sticker price on a device that takes around 450 USD tops to manufacture. Xiaomi instead charges around the same price as how much it takes to manufacture the hardware. But they hope to make larger gains over time by pushing these ads willy nilly.

The only saving grace for Xiaomi is that they allow you to unlock the bootloader for all (most?) devices after an annoyingly long song and dance. That way you can purchase the good hardware and flash a good ROM onto it to get the best of both worlds.

If they stopped allowing bootloader unlocking, Xiaomi will start sinking real fast.
